Titanium?

I'm looking around for some titanium men's jewelry, just some inexpensive stuff. Since I've never really been too big on titanium (and accessories in general, for that matter, being a manly man ;)), I'm not sure about the grades of titanium, and how most of the cheaper stuff is made. I've seen lots of stuff under $100, fairly well constructed, and have seen prices dropping considerably over the past few years. For that matter, my old Casio is constructed mostly of titanium (although it looks like it might be titanium around SS, don't know for sure), and it cost under $100 several years ago.

Since titanium's a trendy material and it's got that gadget factor, I'm guessing that one of you guys can give me some info. on the stuff. Or maybe should I just stick with silver? It'd be sweet to have a piece made from polished carbon fiber, hematite, and flame-anodized titanium.

my wedding ring is titanium. im not up on jewelry either, and platinum just didnt do it for me. and you are right, Ti has a coolness gadget factor even though it doesnt do anything.

i bought mine about two years ago. at that time i was told there are really only two grades of Ti, the higher of which is really just overkill. a quick internet search will give you all the info you need.

id avoid Ti plating on anything.

We bicyclists frequently worship at the altar of titanium, and you can spend something like 250.00 to replace all the steel bolts, nuts and washers on your favorite bike with Ti replacements.

One caveat, though...the stuff is tough. One guy had a snazzy ti ring, which he was quite proud of. Took a fall, and broke the ring-bearing digit. The emergency room guys went to cut the ring off with a special tool they use for the purpose....no go...wouldn't even dent.

They had to cart the guy down to the hospital machine shop to cut the ring off.

This page has some good answers to some of your questions.

Dan Statman made my wedding ring out of 6Al4V with two color gold inlay. I was really impressed with his work, and he is a nice guy. He quit his job as an engineer to make Ti stuff full time, and seems to be doing very well for himself. I've got to run out the door right now, or I'd post some more info. Do some searches on google. I know there are even Ti chains available right now, but that scares me a little bit. I take me ring off every time I do anything where I feel like it runs the risk of getting caught and ripping my finger off. ;)

I got my son a titanium money clip. Although it was plain I am pretty sure that you could flame anodize it as long as you kept the bend cool. You can find the money clips by doing a google search

damn i know exectly what i want, a chain made of Ti 6/6/4, and i can't find one anywhere...oh well guess we can't have everything we want:(

I worhship at the cyclists titanium altar... My prayers haven't been answered yet, i.e. I haven't gotten the +$20/hr. raise...yet.:D

Kam, you should be able to heat it right up without worry using a small propane torch. For best results a fine freshly sanded surface will be nicer as there is a very thin oxidative layer on the ti.

My eyeglasses are made of titanium wire, no screws, no solder, light weight, strong, fantastic, I´ve been wearing glasses for about 46 years and these are the best.

I hadn´t thought about titanium jewelry, but why not?, my wife and I have been thinking of getting new wedding rings for our 25th anniversary next december, I´ll look around for titanium.

have you checked Ebay ? I scored a TI ring for under $30. There are a few guys who sell TI rings as well as slightly flawed TI rings. Mine had a small nick inside that you could just hardly notice...a few minutes with some 1200 wet and a bit of flitz and smooth as can be.
