And i think its a good idea. this is what i wanted to do after finding out that vg had passed. here is what she sent me. thanks, richard j.

I think it would be nice to honor VG in a way that could serve his memory better on BFC. VG was always a generous man. And the VG Guardian Angels donated money to help him.

In my opinion, and it just just my opinion, I think it would be a better use of the money raised to set up a VG Memorial Fund on BFC to be used to help other BFC members in need. Maybe paying for a membership for someone who suddenly fell on hard times, or some other assistance to a upstanding member in need. The Memorial Fund could be overseen by the Moderators, who have a better idea of which members in their respective forums might need some help.

AND.... it could even be a perpetual Memorial Fund. BFC Members could continue to donate to this fund at any time to continue to keep the fund going to assist the good people on BFC.

I think that would keep Dave's memory alive in the minds of everyone on BFC. Once the money goes to the ACS, Dave starts fading away, day by day. But start a Vampire Gerbil Memorial Fund to continue Dave's good works would keep him alive on the forums in another way.

Thanks

Judy

Sounds like an excellent idea to me. Although "VG" was ahead of my time, and I didn't have the pleasure of knowing him, it sounds as if he was a respected member of the group and should be remembered fondly. This sounds like a good way to do just that.

We discussed that possibility, but running a permanent charitable organization, collecting money and then deciding what to do with it, keeping records to satisfy the IRS and everybody else, making sure all the money is accounted for and all laws are complied with -- well, we decided not to attempt all that. That's not what Bladeforums is for. I don't know why that proposal is coming up again now....

Hey Cougar,

I guessed I missed that discussion. I wasn't aware that there had actually been a proposal presented that was voted down.

I certainly understand the legal hoops that would have to be jumped through, based on what you have said.

i totally forgot about that cougar. it was a good idea though. back to the drawing board with what to do. thanks.

Not to worry. Richard called me a few minutes ago and he has come up with another way to honor VG. He is going to donate the proceeds from the sale of both the collaborative knife and the knife he was making for VG, to the Visiting Angels in Pahrump.

I think that is a wonderful idea. They did not bill us for all of the hours they should have/could have. Minimum billing was for 2 hours per day. Often they only charged us 1 hour, and many times Albert, the Director, personally went and drove Dave somewhere and didn't charge us.

I'm going to hook richard j up with Albert, and they can work out the details of the contribution.

Thank you, richard j, for all of your efforts to raise this money.
