ok, went to the bookstore on Thursday and the new issue of TK was
already on the rack, this happened last month and i got my subscription copy about three days later (beat to hell by the post office, ripped cover, maybe those guys are reading it first?), why
isn't the subscription getting out first ? anyone else annoyed with this....

joebe, I feel for you. I just sent my subscription to TK about a little more than a month ago, hopefully I won't run into the problems that you have. As far as the delay, maybe the post office had your copy of TK in their breakroom. From the condition that you say it's in, I'd be wanting to find out. ;)

I have received a cover with no guts to it. The staples were just pulled through the cover and that was all that got delivered. :(

The magazine was replaced after a brief explanation of what happened to the publisher. :)

Since this doesn't fit the Knife Review/Testing category, this is being moved to the general area.

My copy gets ripped to shreds on a regular basis and arrives in tatters. Strangely. my junk mail invariably arrives in pristine condition. odd.....

My copy of the mag routinely arrives about two weeks or more after I see it on the stands at Barnes & Noble. I don't understand that, either. Other magazines I've subscribed to always arrive at minimum a week before they show up on the stands.

Two months I missed issues altogether, but an e-mail to Steven Dick got me the two issues in the mail.

My copies of Blade also arrive well after copies appear in the shop(no-one stocks TK around here that I know of!).

Kalisti.

I thought my problem was with the mail room here on base! Last time I thought it was lost so I bought one off the shelf. Then the mail delivers:confused:

Need to think about resubscribing.

Yes, at least I'm not the only one. I did call about it though and the customer service rep gave me some lame excuse like some subs go out at different intervals. What ever. I also requested that they wrap my sub in plastic. They won't do it. Maybe we all need to start barraging them with requests.

Although subscribers are loyal readers, it's the newstand sales that come through with the dough for publishers. Subscribers tend to pay much lower prices for their issues, much of which goes to sorting, delivery to post office and then shipping. Profit margins for subscriptions are thereby tiny. Also, the longer an issue is allowed to sit on the newstand, the better the sales will be. So, as the magazines roll off the press, newstand deliveries get first priority, followed by subscriptions. It's the nature of the business.

BTW, Jim Six, you're in the news and writing business... what's your thought?

I'm glad to see you're still alive. Haven't seen you on broadarrow in like forever.

Most magazines are not mailed out by the publisher, but are actually sent to mailing houses first and then mailed by these mailing houses to the subscribers. This takes added time. This is done to make things easier for the publishers because they may have dozens of different magazines to get out each month. It is much easier to send thousands of magazines to a mailing house and have them send them out than it is to mail them to the individual subscribers themselves.

The plastic bag idea is a good one, but of course this costs more money and is more time consuming. If they were to do this the cost of a subcription would go up. I think that most subsribers would be willing to pay an extra $2.00 or $3.00 a year to have their magazines protected by a plastic bag, but the publishers want to keep the costs as low as possible.

Yeah my Playboy mags are plastic wrapped and they arrive
in excellent condition. TK knives always looks like shi**
I vote for plastic wrap, they make enough money to wrap
them!

I'm in the newspaper business, not magazines. My thoughts are that subscribers pay to not only get the magazine a little cheaper but to get it before the general public.

Seems like a simple enough expectation to me.

it's good to know i'm not the only one put off by this, it's
rough waiting for it to arrive when you could just drive 5 minutes and get one.

good feedback:D

Hey all-- I have the same problem: sometimes it never arrives, and I have to call 'em in NY (the lady has it sent in a few days in a nice envelope), or they arrive (I've learned to expect them later than newsstand) all tattered 'n' torn as if someone has harassed my magazine. (Paranoid?) I get other magazines and they aren't all beat up. I just resubbed but I dunno if I'll do it again.

Hi!

I've got the same pro here in europe. Well infact it is a little more difficult for me.
The magazines hit some special newsstands long before I get mine throgh post.
My problem is the mag is often taken off the newsstand even before I get my issue.
So if my issue is lost it is very difficult to buy a replacement.
Sometimes I'll buy a copy before mine arrives, which is expensive.
The reason why I prefer subscribtion is the price.
If I buy it from the newsstand it will cost my about 50% more!

greetings

wow i am having probs too, they always arrive 100% condition, BUT about 1-2 wks AFTER hastings has them - thats the number 1 reason i subscribe, to get them earlier, it sucks imho....

WTF is the deal???????

I started subscribing to TK almost a year ago and I only received one issue. I've called TK and they have been good about sending a replacement out until last week. I called because I had not received the July 2002 issue and the lady I spoke with said they would not send me out any more replacements because someone at the post office must be stealing them! I then asked to cancel my subscription and have a refund of all remaining issues sent to me. I was told that September 2002 was my last issue and that was already on the way to me, so no refund! Anyone else seen the September 2002 issue yet? :)
