I've been considering a TKa, but don't know much about the sheath setup. I've heard a few guys mention IWB carry. Others have talked about the Tek-Loc.

How is concealed carry on the TKa? I'm all about comfort, so I'd like my knife to be pleasant day in, day out.

Thanks!

My TKa came with a Kydex sheath and velcro loop attached with 2 screws along the side of the sheath. I belive that you can get it with the Tek-loc. Call and talk to TAD and they can tell you.

Concealed carry works very well for me. I mostly carry IWB, strong side. I carry it so it comes out in reverse grip. It's on my right side but I can still reach it with my left hand and cross draw it.

This set up is very comfortable and I hardly notice the blade even when seated. Sometimes when driving I do feel the sheath pressing on my hip. It's not anything that I would call uncomfortable but more noticeable. I think the knife shifts position slightly and cause the sheath to rub my hip.

Lately I have been experimemting with haveing the sheath beneath my belt just outside of the pant waist. It is still concealed by a jacket or vest that I wear but it adds a layer of fabric that makes the knife even more comfortable to carry. I picked up a Blackhawk Rigger belt (at TAD) that has the velcro along the waist. The TKa sheath like the other Strider sheaths has velcro that can attach to the belt and hold it in the exact position that you want. With this new set up, the TKa is very comfortable and secure.

Hope this helps,

TK is my EDC in uniform. Mine is a tek-lock arrangement. I carry edge forward, strong side carry. Pretty much disappears in BDU's.

Sounds good guys, thanks for the answers.

Does the sheath w/ the Tek-Loc allow for IWB carry? I really want to carry it concealed. Will I have to go to a custom sheath maker to get what I want, or can I be creative with the sheath supplied?

Thanks

I don't know about the tek-lock setup. I saw one and was afraid that the knife might ride a little high IWB for my tastes. Maybe Carpe Noctem can give you a better answer.

Thanks Sidewinder

Here's what I found out. The tek-loc will not allow for IWB carry according to TAD via E-mails. So I will order an IWB attachment directly from Strider, thanks to Mick's E-mail to me. I can't wait to get my TKa. I ordered the smooth black/green handled variant and it should be here end of next week. I opted for the smooth handle because it will be carried strictly IWB, and I hate irritation!

I received my TK alpha yesterday morning! Oh the anticipation of opening the box, I can never do it fast enough. The TKa is one fine knife! The 8 inch OAL is perfect, and the 4 inch blade is simply wicked. It looks like a reverse tanto, and a tiger striped one at that. I was pleasantly surprised to find about 3/4 inch of the clip portion sharpened. The flat grind is perfect and has outstanding edge geometry. I had feared that the bevel would be thick, and I would have to laboriously thin it out. It is in fact very thin, I would liken it to a beefier Spyderco Calypso grind. The Kydex sheath is very secure and "clicks" loudly when the blade is inserted. The Tek-Lok allows for nearly a dozen different carry configurations, if you use a little creative license.

My concealment test was performed today at the local cafe and Wal-Mart. The Tek-Lok was screwed to the lowest two corosponding holes to provide the highest ride possible. The sheath was positioned on my right side hip, for reverse draw grip. The Tek-Lok was facing "out" and the belt went through it in this manner to allow a close hip hugging rig. In other words, this provided considerably less printing than having the Tek-Lok on the inside. With a sweater over the top, the rig disappears. No one has spotted it yet, not even my father, and he is very good at spotting people that "pack". Sitting, riding in cars, and manuverability is not hindered in the least. This is always a challenge for us "larger" folks, I myself being 6' 3" 260 lbs.

Overall performance has been excellent. I performed mudain pruning tasks, opened letters, chopped chicken, mushrooms, onions for supper preparations. The flat grind makes for an excellent all around blade. I can not say enough about 8 inches being such a useful size. Just imagine a CS Large Voyager with an inch cut off of the handle. That is how I invisioned it while painfully waiting a week for delivery.

Now for my IWB attachment to come in the mail from Strider. I will probably prefer this carry method, but I must say the Tek-Lok is much better than I had ever imagined it being. A+ Overall Grade!

Well is it?

I'm glad you like the knife. I knew you would.:D

Yes the sharpened clip portion was also a surprise to me when I first got it. I like it though.

Good luck with the TKa!

Oh yes, this is one comfortable knife. I choose the smooth green-black handles for this reason. I will have to comment later on IWB carry, once I receive the attachment from Strider. But, from what I have heard from you, Sidewinder, this too will be comfy. I just can not get over how solid and handle heavy this little sucker is. It really inspires confidence! Thanks for asking.

Have you seen the new cord wrapped TKa yet it is really cool got me thinking about cord wraps on the EB Series.
