TM-DSF + Spec Ops Brand + azwelke kydex = AWESOME!

I love Busse Combat, Swamprat, and Scrapyard knives.

I also love Spec Ops Brand sheaths specifically the Combat Master model that comes in Short and Long.

I recently acquired a Terror Monkey Desert Storm Fighter. However, the Spec Ops Brand sheath is made to fit a blade up to 1.75” wide. Even with my boiling of the factory liner and attempting to vice grip it to fit the TM-DSF there was still too much horizontal play for my tastes.

Enter stage left azwelke our friendly neighborhood kydex artisan.

I contacted azwelke and asked if he could make a liner for my Spec Ops Brand sheath that would fit my TM-DSF and limit the horizontal play much as possible. Azwelke was up to the challenge and using his own DSSF to size the sheath produced the below work of art!

Note the factory liner is the flat one with the large hole at the bottom. Azwelke's liner is the custom fit kydex one with a hole reinforced with a grommet for strength.

Pretty friggin sweet even if I do say so myself!

If you love Spec Ops Brand sheaths but the factory liner isn't your cup of tea I suggest you get with azwelke! He's the man!

Here are some more pics of azwelke's work:

I've stretched those Spec-Ops liners to fit the HH and shrunk them to fit SJs. They are a pain and are nowhere as nice as what you have there. Congrats, on the sheath and the DSSF.

thanks For posting...the DSSF is my latest purchase and planned on a spec ops sheath myself...good info on the change of inserts to Alweke one!!

that may be my route as well! i personally think the DSSF is going to be an instant classic!

you can't appreciate it until you hold it in your hands!!

J;) ps are the inserts held in with a removable screw? looks like it if i'm seeing it correctly?

How wide is the DSF from the edge to the spine ?

@ silverdragon33 -- It did not cost very much. Contact azwelke for the specifics.

@ manix J -- Yes the liner is held in place by a screw at the bottom of the sheath. I secure mine with lock tite blue.

@ shunsui -- By my rough “non-home improvement / can't hammer a nail / no-talent” measurements the blade is 1 and 3/8” from spine to cutting edge.

Now that is one heck of an idea Bro!!! Great set up there...

Couldn't agree more, Russ....I really like this idea....very novel and applicable to our needs :D

Stan, maybe I missed it, but I couldn't find where you denoted if you used a Long or Short Combat Master for the DSF. I see that the Kydex comes up a bit, so I'm guessing a Short model (although Long would make more sense)....any clarification would be great!

BTW - thanks for posting for the Dogs :D

Thanks,
Ishi

Long model for the TM-DSF.

Yep, I think Al is fixing to be busier than a one legged dude in a sack race!!! I have 5-long Spec-Ops, and 2-short and this opens a whole can of available options. Satin Jacks, BATAC (short sheath) HR's, SH-e, NO-e, BA-e (short) on and on.
Well Done here guys!!!

For comparison purposes...I decided to get one of my Regs out and take a picture of the DSSF next to it and the SYKCO sheath. Really good comparison of the DSF models next to a Regulator, with the DSF's being approximately 3x the cost.

The DSSF fits lengthwise, almost perfectly. With an insert..this would be a great sheath for the DSSF.

Here are some more photos from azwelke.

He ended up doing my liner in a coyote brown-ish color to color match the Spec Ops Brand sheath.

For some folks out there I reckon this means he has an extra liner lying around -- hint hint!

-edit because I may or may not patent the idea presented in this post :p-

AZ welke makes some good sheaths. I have 4 of his sheaths and am very happy with them. My DSF is the pancake style with a thumb push, very nice.

I like that setup with the spec ops sheath, are they wide enough for a sarsquatch?

I had an Azwelke sheath and was very impressed. Tight fit, smooth draw and re sheathing.

That tan or coyote looks amazing... Looks like a great job as always Al. Thx for sharing the pics too.
