I was at a gun show this weekend and came across one of these:

Picture3-3.png

It caught me off guard because I had never seen one before and it immediately struck me as a fake emerson. I own a cqc-7 and everything about it looked wrong, the gimping, the logo, the handle etc. Did some research when I got home and found out these are some sort of collaboration with Emerson and Protech... The knife I saw looked exactly like the one in the picture and it was around 100$ which is odd since all the ones I've seen online are in the 200$ range. It did not look used at all. Not wanting to insult the knife booth guys or hurt their business I kept my mouth shut and moved on.

Does anyone know anything about these or own one? There seem to be a lot of models: http://www.bladehq.com/cat--Protech-Emerson-CQC7--399

How much of these knives are actual Emersons? Are there fakes out there?

They are good Autos. I know some people that have one.
IIRC some blades were custom done by Emerson himself(don't take that as golden, but I fairly certain there a few done like that)

However most of them are not made by Emerson, just Protech. To be Clear they are NOT Emersons but PROTECH. It is just a collaboration allowing them to make an auto version of the design. Much like the Kershaw Auto Commanders.
They have a rep for being good knives.

However that being said they have not interested me much as getting and actual Emerson made 7 with Wave, proves to be faster deploying anyway when your good with it.

I do not own one of the models with the lock or texturing.

I was lucky enough to meet and speak with both Mr. Emerson and Dave from ProTech while at Blade Show last year. Both great guys and fun to talk with about all things knife related and beyond. But there was no mention to me of a collaboration by either of them.
And no reason to disclose one, as I spoke with each separately, at their separate booths, and I did not name-drop or mention one maker to the other in either conversation.

Enough rambling, I snagged a few variants of these awhile back. Once I bought one I liked it enough to get a couple more. They have gotten very little use, so still look very new.

Oh, and at 100 bones, that would have been a steal, these each cost me a good bit more than that.

At 100.00 i would have bought it as quickly as possible...
Even the smallest Protech Runt CA auto's are way over the 100.00 Mark.

Thanks for the replies all, very good TMA and very good info.

@Need2Know, great pics! Never thought i'd say it but that emerson (okay okay protech) looks good in pink.

The 100$ thing is still somewhat of a mystery to me... These guys had a huge booth with lots of knives all generally on point with pricing. I'll be keping my eye out next time these guys are in town.

It only looks pink in the picture. In real life it is anodized red. Looks much more masculine in hand than through a camera lens and displayed on a monitor.

That price you mentioned would have caused me to buy another. That was a great deal.
