In keeping with my signature, here is my reply from 2009 on how to have a happy Passover.

Passover Seder, the drinking man's celebration!

One drinks a cup of wine four times during the Seder:

  1. At the conclusion of Kiddush.
  2. After telling the story of the Exodus from Egypt, before eating the Matzah of Motzi Matzah.
  3. At the conclusion of the Grace After Meals.
  4. After reciting the Hallel.
It is preferable to drink the entire cup each time. However, it is sufficient to drink only the majority of each cup.

How large a cup should be used? One that contains at least 3½ fluid ounces.

Now I have never seen a fancy shmancy seder set with a decanter and dinky silver cups: everyone I know sets the table with 6 or 8 oz. wine glasses and a bottle or two of Mogen or Manny, unless they're cheap and buy generic kosher cherry wine (which is frequently better). And most of them just sip at the wine. But not me! I believe in following directions, especially directions from a Mythological Entity.

Do the math, guys: 4 x 6 is a whole bottle of wine. You're gonna be feeling no pain unless you have organ failure from hyperglycemia. And all the seder foods are pretty good drinking food. Horseradish, man! Oh yeah! And parsley is good too when you dip it in salt water.

I highly recommend Passover.
