to buy or not to buy...Umfaan

After giving it some consideration, I've decided to buy an Umfaan for carry purposes. Obviously they are getting harder to come by due to being discontinued. I'm not concerned about what the redesigned model will offer, nor do I want to wait a year or two. Soooo, the big question is...if a guy found an Umfaan from a dealer in a design he liked best of the computer graphic designs made, is the knife worth $295 which I believe was the list price?

Email sent. It's kind of like a sign I saw in a print shop: economy, quality (used vs new), speed: pick two. Fast in perfect shape=retail. Used and take your time = $225 more or less. Of course, the quest is half the fun.:D

in a word: yes. he umfaan is every bit CRK quality. don't be fooled by its small size, it is a user and a serious cutter than can be carried pretty much anywhere. i love mine, and don't think i will ever give it up, regardless of the redesign (which i am sure to get one of anyway).

yup. that is for me the only downside on the umfaan. but i was lucky enough to get mine with a Grealy sheath, so i put it on my belt. as a user, it is a great knife, but no clip is a nono imho. however, i knew that going into thew purchase, and i would do it again. sure it could be even better, but i will take it as is with minor grumblings. ;)

The Umfaan has been part of my EDC for about 2 years. So yes, I'd say it's worth the asking price.

I have a photo of the annual Umfaan knives but have only seen a couple of the unique versions. Anybody have a photo of an Umfaan with a unique graphic design? Better yet, if you have one you would be willing to part with send me a note...we'll talk buylow@coho.net

Thanks for the input gents. I have purchased the Sun & Spear graphic Umfaan from John Jensen at http://www.johnfjensen.com

Had to pay full price ($295) but John offered free UPS ground shipping. I upgraded to 2nd day for $5 so for a nice round figure of $300 I have a brand spankin' new CR Umfaan in my pocket.

John is very professional and has good inventory of CR knives. You can feel very confident that he will do you right. Oh by the way, I ordered the knife mid day on Wed and he shipped it the same day so I could have it for the weekend.

An Umfaan fits perfectly in the small front pocket of a Jason Burns' Mission Wallet (just like a small Sebenza fits in the larger front pocket :))

I love my Umfaan! I used mine to peel an orange yesterday, and it worked superbly.
