So going by the fact there's a dedicated SOG section on these forums it seems reasonable to conclude this series of knives is good quality. That said I'm still not entirely sure about getting one just yet.

The Seal Pup M37-N is selling for just over $40 on amazon. The weight looks good, the molle sheath is a bonus, and there's just enough serrations on the edge for my liking. But how robust is it? What can it really stand up to within reason without breaking? Is it purely a fighting knife or will it work as a general purpose utility knife?

In my opinion for all honest and correct usage of a blade I do not think you will hurt it... BUT it does not trip my trigger. IF its something you like then go for it and dont let anyone tell you any different. There are a lot of SOG Lovers and SOG Haters I am just pretty nuetral... but its all up to your mileage and experience... Also there are some other options out there for around the same price, go check out the Becker/KA-BAR Subforum and you will see what I am talking about ;)

I just picked a new one up for $25 on clearance at a local store. I wasnt expecting much but the sheath alone is worth every bit of the $25 I spent. I was also happy to find that the newer ones with the nylon sheath are actually AUS-8 not AUS-6. The knife was incredibly sharp out of the box and while im not a huge fan of serrations on collecting knives they will come in handy for the around the yard tasks the knife has before it. one of the things I really like is that its light yet still feels very sturdy. I didnt do any research before buying it and I didnt know it was a nylon handle. I was expecting kraton but the nylon is really grippy and cleans easily. I think the seal pup is the perfect size for an all around user. I have to be honest that while it is a full tang knife im not sure if the molded handle would survive batoning to any extent. At $40 Id say its a decent value and just downright killer at the price I paid. Knife is made in taiwan and has exceptional fit and finish even if it was double the price. I was especially impressed with the crisp grind lines. The knife does not give you a "cheap" impression.

Wow, that's a good price. I had one but sold it a while back do to the Serrations. Other then that, I loved the knife. Will pick up a plain edged Elite as soon as I can. Good knives.
