To Clean or Not To Clean?

I need some guidance from you experts. Is it ok to clean up an old knife? When I say clean I am referring to polishing the blades and bolsters etc. I have heard it is better to leave it "original" with its aged petina. I know it would look better and more like an original specimen if it were cleaned. What do Ya'll think?

That completely depends on the knife, it's condition, history, and value.
Some knives should be left alone. What knife, exactly are you referring to?

This one is a Case Folding Hunter. It looks real similar to Buck 110. It looks in nice condition but the brass bolsters are tarnished and look like they need polishing. Not sure if polishing is a good idea or not. Blade is in nice shape, scales look OK but could use some polishing. I will probably buy it and decide on "cleaning" later.

Are you going to sell it or keep it as a user? If you're just going to keep and and use it, you can do anything you want to it. But if you are interested in maintaining its monetary value, you'll want to keep the patina.

Well I bought it for $20. It looks like a good specimen so I will probably clean it up and hold it for awhile.
