I am trying to purchase an O-1 Trailmaster. According to your post the O-1's are marked on the knife as O-1. There are pictures of which you posted at least one. I saw some on pictures of the knife at one store.

A different store I ordered from sent me a trailmaster with no O-1 marking on it yet it is in a box with the correct O-1 SKU. It's SKU# 39L16CT .

Can you look into this before I try another knife. I'm in the process of sending one back to a company who claims they can't tell which is which. They were smartassed with me ( not your problem or fault) and after doing some research I find out they are sending me what they honestly think is the O-1 knife according to the SKU's. I can see why they are getting angry.

I'm demanding a return at their expense as I specified "No SK5 knives" and meant it. As far as I know 1)Cold steel put the wrong knives in the box and sent them out, or2)the knife company is lying to me. Or,3) something has changed and you are unaware of it.The knives may be no longer getting marked. That doesn't explain why one company that just got them in has marked knives, while the other that got them has unmarked knives.

Please get this straightened out ASAP before things get out of hand. There are pissed off folks already and it is causing lossed $ to at least one knife company, me, and maybe more people who haven't caught on yet. :)

Thanks!

Joe

One other thing. Please don't come back here and tell me Cold steel stopped marking them. That will cause plenty of more problems such as this one, in addition to the guys that try to sell one in the future as an O-1 knife, not an SK-5. I wouldn't believe it personally.

Obviously you have seen the excitement the steel change has caused. It has guys like me going out and buying ( trying to) the new O-1 version despite already having the SK-5.

Some here will be able to actually test the composition of the steel. Others won't. It would be a bit much to go through to sell a second hand trailmaster though but that is what it would take to prove to me an unmarked knife is indeed O-1

Thanks,

Joe

My 0-1 Trailmaster just arrived on friday and it's clearly marked 01 on it.
I'm wondering how it would be Cold Steel's fault here with the problem since they don't produce or release their own brand items.
There is another post on here where the knife store clearly shows a black blade sk5 knife with the sk5 item# but describes the steel as 0-1 on their website description so I would tend to believe it's the dealer who messed up.
It could just be a simple thing like a customer looking at them side by side in the store and they were put in the wrong box?
Anyway I hope it works out for you.

Thanks but it wasn't the only one like that. They came in like that best I can tell and they had trouble with another customer or so I hear. Seems as if they pulled them and are showing out of stock at the store now.I hope it gets straightened out too. I'm sending mine back.

SKUs are the same, but the blades are definitely marked. All the dealer needs to do to confirm which steel he has, is to open a box and take a look at the blade before shipping, and/or receiving shipments from CS. Not that hard to do. Like CS Mod said, it is a "rolling change", so by definition, it will occur over time. Dealer's responsibility to know what he has and what he is shipping.

As this is a rolling change (the 0-1 is replacing the SK-5) I believe the SKU will remain the same.

This dealer has different SKU's listed. It must be one they devised to use on remaining stock.

CS39L16CTSK5 for SK5 trailmaster
CS39L16T for O-1 trailmaster

Naturally San Mai Trailmaster has a different one.

Perhaps that's why they got mine wrong. Taken off your link to Cold Steel they have the O-1 listed as
SKU# 39L16CT

The SK5 trailmaster SKU no longer shows up on the Cold steel site.

Thanks. I believe you solved the problem.
