To EDC or not to EDC, that is the question. Opinions?

My red R.A.M. should be here in a day or two and just wanted to know what you guys thought. I don't know how rare they are so I don't want to EDC it if is going to be worth something in a few years since I bought it NIB. I guess that's my main concern. I have a black R.A.M. that I carry daily but the red one is beautiful so I'm torn. Keep in the box for later on, or use it like it was intended?

I had a similar question about my new orange Skyline in a blister pack, and after much thought and support and input from the forums here, I decided to open it. If future collectability or eventual sale was a larger concern, I wouldn't have opened it, BUT that was a $30 knife. I don't know how much you paid for the red R.A.M. but if future profit based on availability and demand is a real concern, don't use it. Otherwise, use it lightly and sell later as a light user instead of something you hammered on for years. I say enjoy it lightly and leave the heavy use to something else.

Definitely keep it pristine and don't use it. That way, when you croak and your wife's next husband gets it, it will be nice and new. You would not want it covered with drywall dust and biscuit gravy when he gets it, would you?

They'd be so lucky to get my knives! Definitely made me laugh though :D

I remember reading that thread actually. I would have opened your Skyline for sure :D I'm not sure how many red R.A.M.'s were made or when or anything like that but R.A.M.'s do seem like they are quite popular and they did sell out quick on ebay so I'm not sure (It was $65 shipped). I don't intend on beating the snot out of any of my knives so it should be in good shape later on down the road unless I drive off with it on the top of my car like I did with my Leek :o

Carry it, pleasure over profit...on something that isn't a one of a kind collectable.

I think that's what I am probably going to do. I'm still curious if anyone thinks that the knife will worth more than I paid down the road

Probably. As stock dries up latter on, there will be some people that will kick
themselves in the ass for not getting a red RAM while they where still readily
available.....kinda like the blue Blurs. ;)

That's ok though, I have one of each. :D

I've got an adjustable wrench that I keep in my safe..ya know..just in case...:D

If I could use an old motorcycle analogy: Ride 'em, don't hide 'em.

Use it if you like it. Don't worry about what it may be "worth" someday. My old Mom used to say "There are no pockets in shrouds."

So I got the knife yesterday and decided to carry it. I went to remove the scales on the back so they didn't shred my pocket but noticed that the pocket clip came switched for tip up carry and the first screw is stripped just like my blem I got last week. The box it came in didn't have a label on it and there was no booklet in the box. Just kind of curious if this could be a blem? No XXXX on the blade but people have done crazier things than sell blems as the real deal and put them in an old box they had sittin' around.

New husband gets to enjoy or your kids that could care less about something except how much they can get for something to go to Vegas!

Surprises me how many kids don't have any interest in collecting anything. So, my advice if you have something say...from Elvis or something like that sell it now before everybody that cares about Elvis is gone. I know nothing about the knife you are asking about but, like others have said here; if it's an investment, put it away otherwise use and enjoy it.

No X's no blem. That's done at the factory and you would have to sand or bead blast the X's out. You would know if that had been done.
Mine came new with no box. Does anyone have a box marked for a red RAM? I'd like to see it.

According to the seller, he got it new from Kershaw without a box as well and just put it in one for the heck of it. Did your pocket clip come tip up or tip down? Seller says all came tip up but my 1910CKTXXXX came tip down. Not the same knife, but just curious :D
