Nice sleeveboard and balloon whittlers.

I really like lookin at those old adds :D
I like the Jack knife.. And for $1.33 more you can get a razor and strop to suit.... Those days are definetely gone :(

Excellent customer service! When was the last time you saw a knife company guarantee to replace a knife if it was "soft and flawy"?

I like those Maher & Grosh ads. Here's one from 1887:

And here's one page from an 1886 Hibbard Spencer & Bartlett catalog:

I'll take the "Old Solid Comfort" thanks very much:D

What is that pattern, a Congress? Note the match-pulls:thumbup:

Old catalogues are tremendous time-machines and I assume, so few left:(

Those are a lot of fun. I'll take 10 of the #58 in ebony please.

Thanks for posting this.

Shown before but seem appropriate again. A few pages from a Jos Rodgers Catalogue 1910. Some congress knives from a reprint of 1885 Wostenholm catalogue.

Those double blade Rodgers' in barehead style with jigged bone or stag...fantastic!

And those multi blades from Wostenholm, staggering!

S-K do you have any contemporary prices on those please? Half a crown? One and a tanner?

I agree-- I love how the one that caught my eye is labeled "Made for service, not for beauty." I just might have to disagree.

In the Wostenholm add, the spear blade on the congress is shown right on top of the sheepsfoot. I don't think I've seen knives advertised that way nowadays--why was it done then?
