Okay folks...I've had a hard time being decisive with this blade. First and foremost...I'm not a collector. I buy knives for use, and I haven't done anything with the Sebenza but cut paper. It has ridden in my pocket a couple times, but I don't seem to be reaching for it on a daily basis. I love the quality and the reputation, but why am I not carrying it? Maybe it's just not for me? I really want to like and carry it, but I'm getting frustrated with it just sitting on my dresser.

I've only had it for a few weeks. Has anyone else had this initial period of reluctant carry (and did you later warm up to it)? I'm beginning to think I should just sell it off.

I've considered a flipper. Are you a Mortarman?

Flipper's nothing but a fiddly gidget. Sebenzas grow on you. Once you get past trying to protect it from its first ding and start using it you'll be glad you did.

I used to be a mortar man until I lost my pestle.

92 to 96... I've had a little bit of time to decompress haha. I prefer sebenzas but that is me. I will stop what I am doing and find a screwdriver/Johnny bar/flat bar to finish the job. Will they take it? Yes. Abuse a knife over a given period of time and two or three years later you got what you got. As far as scratches and the occasional chip in the blade go with it! If you are bearing down on something with all your weight and there is a piece of 're bar or cement that is gonna take the load???? At one point a fella may glance around for a stick or piece of two by four to take that load. You have got a fine knife sir, use it as a cutting instrument and it will last a lifetime. I apologize if I have been preaching, semper fi

If you need to ask, then sell it. I have been over flippers and high tech knives for some time. So mine is a blessing.
Something out there will make you happy right away and those are usually the keepers.

that's kind of the philosophy I have always gone by too. Now that my benchmade 940 is back in the proper condition...I can't stop carrying it.

I carried a sebbie for a bit. But when I first got it I too hesitated. But then again I have a hard time carrying and using any knife over $200. The sebenza was a great knife but just not for me. I prefer flippers with bearings for EDC. I couldnt fault the sebenza on nearly anything. They are great knives and I love the quality. But I think knives either speak to you or they dont and the sebbie while admittedly an amazing piece of cutlery just wasnt my thing. Aside from me just not jiving with the knife the ONLY negative to me is I really didnt care for the rough sandblast finish to the handle scales. Literally showed any and every brush with other materials. I have had knives for 10 years that didnt look as worn as that sebbie did after a week of carrying it. I think you need to evaluate what it is that is keeping you from picking it up. No one but you knows what that reason is. Do you normally gravitate to expensive knives? If not that may be a reason you are not pulling for it. When I see a sebenza I see it as the perfect marriage of old school design simplicity combined with the best manufacuring tolerances as well as fit and finish currently available. But if you arent a simple person the sebbie just might not do it for you.

Sebenzas are superb knives.

I'm one who never got any kind of kick from them at all. When I hold a Sebenza, it's a chunk of Ti. When I look at a Sebenza, it's a nice knife. I have only one now...in a drawer for a long time and still waiting for it to, uh, grow on me. I sometimes think the only reason I retain it is because I'm supposed to be a quasi-knife collector.

Sebenzas have the largest proportion of "Why don't I use/carry it more?" self-examination than any other knife I know of by far. While many won't admit it, the value-for-quality point of Sebenzas surpasses the line. It achieves the marketing goal of name recognition for a premium; probably deservedly so as Reeve has done a hell of a job with his company.

This transforms one's attitude more toward the, "I'm carrying a half-ounce of gold in my pocket," mind set, even if it's subconcious. The knife ends up spending most of its time in a vault or carried but used very little because in this case it matters if the gold bar has a scratch on it.

The mental predicament you are in can put a damper on the hobby as much as becoming a genuine steel snob can. If you continue to suffer this remorse, and it is a remorse, pick a knife or two that really thrill you, sell the Seb, get a cool knife and go on. To this day I continue to appreciate and enjoy the NIB ZT 561 and wad of cash for which I traded a Sebenza that was a drawer toad.

This is going to be my life long user. Everything I need in a knife. Just some teaser pics while on the subject.

No one can really tell you with any certainty what you should do. I only know that over the last 50 or so years, I've long ago lost track of the hundreds of knives I've owned, bought, sold, traded. On balance, at least 90% of the ones that I got rid of.....I eventually regretted my decision, and wished I had it back. My point....be damn sure before you get rid of a nice knife like a Sebenza, or you'll find yourself looking for another to buy. ;')

The first one I bought sat in the safe for a while. It wasn't until I went through a parcel of other knives before I started using the Sebenza. Once it was in my pocket and I started using it, I understood the mechanics of the knife. I got it. It makes me happy to use it.
I kept it because I was looking for the right knife for me, I found it in the Sebenza. I'm glad I didn't move it.

Honestly there is no reason for you to keep it, carry and enjoy that BM. The 940 is one of the greats. Unless you are ok with keeping that much money tied up in a knife you dont really care to use, Get your money back buy something new and fun. If it were a unique then I would feel different.
Please post a picture of your knife when you have a chance. Threads are useless without pics.

Can't seem to figure out how to upload the photos in a thread post. Suggestions?
