To keep or not to keep (the lanyard)

Carry it for a bit with the lanyard, then take the knife apart and remove the lanyard and pin. Then carry it that way for a while. You'll know from experience then.
I always take mine off because I prefer it that way.

I suggest to take it apart and remove the lanyard and pin so you don't have to untie anything. That way if you find you prefer it, it's an easy thing to just take the knife apart and put it back on. No need to retie anything.

I need to have one on mine for easy pull out of my leather sheath.
Provides the best grip on the knife so I don't drop it

I would never use a lanyard on any other knife, but I have to have them on the sebenza. Offers better grip when pulling out of pocket or sheath. Occasionally I will feel like it I should try it without the lanyard for a while. This typically lasts for about 10 seconds after I remove the lanyard.

I used to hate them also, but then one day i purchased a new CRK, and i decided to leave the lanyard on. After carrying it for a while, it started to grow on me. Now i really like them.

I like lanyards on my knives. It makes it easier to pull the knife out of a sheath or pocket. I have carried my CRK folders both ways (with and without lanyard) and always seem to migrate back to installing a lanyard on them.
I noticed that on my large Insingo that the blade was coming in contact with the stock CRK lanyard so I took it out and tied my own through the lanyard hole in the handle slabs so the blade wouldn't cut it. Now all my folders have lanyards that I have tied.

I take the lanyard off every time. Its just more stuff to hang out of the pocket and more of a chance to have it hook on something and lose a awesome knife.

Hmmm, you make a good point. Ive always liked them cause i can deploy from the pocket much quicker.

Lanyards on large fixed-blades makes sense from a safety standpoint when chopping, but I don't use them on folders......never found a need.

Interesting to read the different views, choices and reasoning on this topic.
Personally I like lanyards and have them on all my knives. It's just a personal choice with me. Do they get in the way? Sure, sometimes, but I can easily tuck them along side the knife in my hand with no problem. I carry my Sebenzas in a Deep Carry style belt sheath or a Hip Pocket sheath and find a lanyard handy in removing the knife from those style sheaths.

This is true.

I also don't like the fact that a lanyard sticking out of my pocket draws more attention to that pocket. Sheep see lanyard, sheep see knife, sheep worry. I wish sheep knew better, but that is why they are sheep.

I loved the lanyard for the longest time, but then decided to remove it and much prefer it this way. It started looking odd with the lanyard hanging out of my pocket and was far from discreet.

Not to mention it's easier to pickpocket with a lanyard. I live in a major city and always have to stay aware. Wallet in the front pants pocket, as well. I've had someone try and lift something from my back
pocket on the subway train, only a folded hankerchief there and they retreated empty handed. I didn't feel like confronting him, and his certain accomplice(s), over a hankerchief but I'd hate to think about him grabbing an opportune lanyard and running off, if it were sticking out of my pocket.

A lanyard is also more noticeable to those who may not have noticed my pocket clip alone, and who needs the extra attention?

I liked the lanyards... until I took one off while cleaning and didn't put it back on. Now all of my CRK's are lanyard free. The grip feels so much better *small sebenza especially* without the lanyard imo.

I don't need a lanyard to help me pull my knife out of the pocket. If it was in a sheath then maybe.

Keep it, it's good

I do this to all my CRKs

another longer one to put my fingers on or for easier pull out from the pocket

Lanyard does not really do anything functional for me but I like to keep it as an ornament.

I like the lanyard. Makes the knife easy to find and retrieve. Not concerned about pickpocket. More concerned about LEO attention. I mind my business, sheriff deputies don't give me a second look. I ride the train though south central Los Angeles. I have no intension of using my knife for SD.
