I have a Benchmade 723SBKD2-701. (You probably know this, but just in case, S is for (semi)serrated, BK is for black blade, and D2 for steel.) It's a Pardue design and is #243/700. I paid around $200 for it around 2006-07. I am happy to own it because it's Benchmade, and because it's a limited edition. But, every time I get it out to carry it (or just fondle it), I'm put off by the combo edge. I used to think they were cool, but after collecting now for a number of years, I don't find serrations that useful, and I think they ruin the blade profile, as well. I'm kinda thinking of selling it, but I'm also kinda thinking I might kick myself for letting go of a fairly rare Benchmade. Would like to hear what you all have to say, one way or the other. Hang on to it (at least for now), or let it go? Suggestions for a good replacement as far a collectibility? Best bets under $300? Prefer metal handles to G10. 154CM or better. Could be non-Benchmade, too. Protech? Microtech (is there a Microtech under $300? I'll have to check.)

Anyways, would like to hear your thoughts. This is my first post to Blade Forums, so be gentle! I've been collecting about 10 years and have a decent collection (100+?) of US and Taiwan Knives (Benchmade, Spyderco, Cold Steel, ZT, USA Kershaw. I think there are still some Chinese Bokers, Kershaws, and CRKTs in the mix, too, just because they are a great values. Also have lots of traditional types from GEC, Queen, Case, and others.

I'm not a fan of the serrated blades either, I do have a few but plan on selling them in the near future myself. As far as a collectible replacement...there's currently a limited edition carbon fiber/m390 Ares available from RGH Knives in Taiwan. It's roughly $350 shipped.

Welcome to the forum!

If you are thinking about selling it now then you probably will eventually anyway. Might as well go ahead and do it unless you would rather wait and see if the value increases. I understand that you enjoy simply owning the knife. I have several pre 1940 Case knives that are still in pristine condition. Even though I don't use them I can't bring myself to sell them. But then, I'm not thinking about selling them either. On the other hand, I've had a few rare knives that I wanted to sell but I had a hard time making that decision. I ended up selling those and only once in a blue moon do I miss them. Usually when I read a post about one of those models here on the forums. I don't miss them until I get reminded of them and even then it doesn't last very long.

Only you can decide what to do but my recommendation is to sell it and use the funds to get something that gives you more pleasure in a practical sense. If you don't like combo edges then there's really no practical reason to have them in your collection. That's how I look at it anyway.

Good luck!

Hello and welcome.

That's a tough call - Keeping a knife that no longer speaks to you or selling it.

Unless there is some sentimental attachment - it was your first Benchmade, ect - you might be surprised how much you could get for it. And then you could get something new that does speak to you.

I have a 720 with a satin partially serrated blade. But I like serrations.

Good luck on whatever you choose.

It depends on what is most important to you in a knife. If you're more of a knife user, and if you wont use it at all and it will just sit in a safe you should sell it. If you're more of the collector type, I'd hang on to it. It's not a Benchmade you see every day. I'm not sure if it will increase in value or not but if you think it's cool then keep it.

As a collector it's not very desirable unless you collect that specific model. The serrations tend to be frowned upon. The BK blade isn't very popular either. And being 1 of 700 makes it one of the more common "limited" editions. If you list it for $150 and it sells, I'd be surprised.

If you are kinda thinking about selling it, you will kinda need to get the right membership to even discuss such things. Since you aren't Gold or higher yet, we have to end this one here.

I understand the rules. I wasn't trying to sell it. I was only asking people what they thought of keeping a knife that no longer appeals to them. You know what, I don't need to be chastised. Keep your forum. I'm outta here.

Doesn't really seem like you do, throwing around prices, insinuations, and such. In any case, bye bye... Poor soul, getting chastised and such.
