to lanyard or not to lanyard?

I've got a few emersons. I use 'em.

I was wondering what the opinions on lanyards are for Emersons.

There are the "rattail" ones, short loops, long loops, something in between, or even tie your Emerson to your belt!

Speed of deployment, ease of use under stress, grip change; these are things to consider.

Or is the lanyard too much bs to bother with?

The rattail lanyards facilitate rapid deployment but do not prevent loss of knife. A wrist loop is good when working on the end of the dock over water or if the handle is slippery. A loss prevention lanyard attaches to the belt or goes over the shoulder. I attach a long lanyard to a knife with a push pin so that it can be readily be attached or detached. I showed a Sebenza rigged with a push pin lanyard to Chris Reeve. He said it looked too clunky. He doesn't have to buy a new knife if he loses one.

Depends on the kind of lanyard. I personally find that they get in the way - those thicker knotted ones, sometimes with beads and all.

As the above poster mentioned, lanyards really help in places where you stand a chance of losing your knife, though the more decorative lanyards don't work particularly well with that.
