Wind in his Hair from the movie Dances with Wolves.
I headed out to a small local show on Saturday. The day was cloudy and overcast, I wasn't sure if I was going, but I'm glad I did. The mountains are absolutely gorgeous, and the only thing I regretted was that I did not make time to stop at Washington Monument SP. The drive out was great, the show wasn't bad, and it didn't rain too bad on the long drive home.
I made some trades at the Mason Dixon knife club show held at the Best Western Grand Venice hotel in Hagerstown MD. Ryan? Daniels, formerly with Great Eastern and now with Tuna Valley was there with his wife. I've gotten some good GEC family knives from him in the past, and saw some nice patterns from the Tuna Valley company. What I traded for were the following, no pics right now:
Tidioute amber bone clip point Ben Hogan; jigged bone Northfield UNXLD 23 two blade trapper and a Northfield 48 bone single blade trapper. The pull on the 23 is tighter than on my single blade 23, but the 65 and 48 were nice and smooth. Maybe after a couple actions on the 23, it will smooth over time like my single blade 23 has.
I also bought a Case 5 blade watermelon bone sowbelly stockman from another dealer at the show. It's SS, and not my ideal choice of handle material, but it looks a lot nicer than in catalogs or online pics.
I also got a black and pink paracord lanyard for my sister, but that is for another thread...
Overall, as far as the show goes, I will go next year, if they hold it again. Lots of slipjoints. Not that many patrons. Fewer paying patrons. Lots of nice slipjoints. Mostly older stuff, a few newer models, but a really good selection for such a small show. Early 20th century to recent.
Later on, I stopped by a local shop, and traded for a bunch of knives. Got an SS autumn barnboard bone Case 3 blade sowbelly. Nothing else that could be called traditional.
A good day overall, always great to head out to western MD.
