To serrate or not to serrate

Just wanted to hear some preferences on the Commander as far as the serrations go. I usually avoid serrated blades, but I am leaning toward getting them on my Commander. The shape of the blade seems more suited to them. Any thoughts?

Cheers

Seus,

I prefer all my knives with plain razor edges, especially the Emersons. I don't cut too much Fiberous material and want the fine cutting you can only get with a plain edge blade.

It all depends on what your're going to use it for.

:)

OWL is right.. it depends on your intended use.. i prefer plain edged blades too (good for the aftermarket if you are tired and want to resell :p)

however - it DOES cut cloth MUCH better. I don't like to admit that my user commander has serations :).. looks ugly in my opinion though.

This post by Joe Talmadge might influence your decision. it is a very informative post about how to sharpen your recurve blade to perform better. I have used the techniques that he suggests on my Boa with great results and the Recurve has become one of my favorite shaped blades. I think the blade will be more useful in the plain edge configuration sharpened with Joe's technique than with the serrations. I don't have a Commander so I haven't been able to test the technique on it but I would expect similar or better results with the modified chisel edge of the Commander. Thanks again Joe!
