Hello Spark, I need some help. I assume that you've read that Tony Metsala had a shop fire and lost everything. I work with a lot of knifemakers and I personally feel that Tony is one of the nicest gentleman I have ever had the pleasure to work with. For your information, I've sold several of Tony's fine knives and blades.

I have two Spyderco knives I want to auction and Sal Glesser has donated three fine knives and a Tri-Angle Sharpener.

What do I need to do, to set up an auction to benefit Tony?

Please take a look here http://customknives.com/TonyMetsalaAuction.htm to see what I have. I've already sold a couple of Tony's blades and have not taken any sales commission. And plan on doing the same with the items Spyderco has donated. I also will pay for the shipping of these 6 items, along with any Paypal or credit card fees. I will absorb the charges.

I emailed Blade-Tec Thursday about the Spyderco Wegner Design knife, but they have not replied. So I don't have a suggested list price on that knife.

I figure to start the bidding at $1.00 on each knife. What do you think?

Will Bladeforums.com help me with this good cause?

Sincerely,

A.T. Barr

The way to reach Spark is to post in Bladeforums Service & Support.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

I haven't heard about the shop fire, and I sympathized with him. I'd suggest setting up an Ebay auction because, quite frankly, the forums aren't set up for proper auctioning.

I have no problems allowing this auction to happen this time - normally we'd ban all auctions off the site.

Lately, we've been suggesting holding the actual auction on eBay or other similar auction site since they have the infrastructure to really do a proper auction.

When Spark approves, we allow a thread (often sticky it) with a link to the auction. This is a major exception to our rules and so we always require verbiage with the link that explains that this is a special exception authorized by Spark so that others don't get the idea that they can just post links to other auctions without permission.

So you all feel I should use eBay? If so, will I be able to post a link to it here on Bladeforums?

...and when you post that link, we will all get in there and contribute.

Sorry to hear about Tony's loss. Thank you, Mr. Barr, for helping out.

Good luck with these auctions, it is a very kind thing you are doing :)

Tony & his family are in my prayers - I have been thru a house fire myself & it is tough.
