I just wanted to say thanks. I know that being responsible for this website is often more trouble than it's worth, but I want you to know that I appreciate all your efforts. Thanks for everything.

Absolutely---this place has been part of my routine for a long time and I appreciate everything you do in providing it.

+1 here.

Spark, I can only guess what a pain in the ass this recent crash was.

Thanks for doing what you do to keep this forum alive. It is appreciated.

Good job Spark. I was starting to get worried. I tried calling 1SKS to get an update, but kept getting a message. Never did get through to a person.

Well now.
I agree that BladeForums is GREAT.
HOWEVER.
I disagree with the way Spark( or the administrator/webmaster) handled the matter.

It's a quick little call to the domain registrar to pont the url to another server( any server) and do a quickie www.bladerforums.com/index.html so that the current paid members , and surfers, would see just a page saying " Our servers are being serviced and we expect them to be online by xx/xx/xxxx.

Instead The Spark got wet and nobody had any idea when it would be dried out..:thumbdn:
Even crappy little free sites, with no paid memberships, have enough brains to at least post " Under Construction"

Hey Guys..
Gringo...

Since Spark owns the server, and it is probably on premises, I doubt very much that it is as simple as just pointing a site this large, and with this much daily traffic onto another server.

It's not like the site is run on a HP Pavilion from Office Depot...

Why do you need to call the Registrar? A simple login to an Admin console to manage your domain name will quickly adjust DNS in a matter of seconds.

Since Spark suddenly needs double-redundancy for YOU, perhaps he should start charging admission to the show. Free-loader. :jerkit:

I am very happy that the Bladeforums is back up and running.
THANKS SPARK. It is appreciated!!
Keep up the good work. I for one will keep renewing my membership yearly without hesitation!

What everybody else said,except Ringogunsmith.:jerkit:
I will also without hesitation renew my membership annually, what a loss to the knife community it would be if BladeForums went away.Spark.Thanks for everything.
May find a little extra and send ya' enough for a sammich.:D

Doug

Well, braindead.. I mean deadhead.. ;)
I've freeloaded my way through about $2800 dollars worth of knives from people who do pay subscriptions to this place and had NO IDEA what was going on with the site they support.

If you look at my sign up date it's a rather substantial amount of cash for the time I've been on this board. Spark Plug didnt " directly" receive it, but his subscribers benefit from me.

I was a knats azz from signing Platinum (since I'd like to post some pictures) but with all of the downtime since I found this site and the lack of proper notification to the subscribers,as to the problem(s), I'll wait.

back to freeloading

but you found a "system"
with all of the downtime since I found this site and the lack of proper notification to the subscribers,as to the problem(s), I'll wait.
back to freeloading

Stop whining and go find something to do.

Now, I'm no super-genius or anything, but I think it would be fairly simple to determine that, when you try to bring up the site a few times in a few hours, or a day apart, and keep getting the "cannot find server" error, that the server is most likely down.

Also, I know there are too many commas in that sentance to promote good grammar, I just don't care.

I just want to put in my two cents, and say thanks as well. This is the best place on the web without boobies, and much more realistically usefull. Was very happy to see it back up.

Honestly, I probably could have put up a page pointing to a static message, but really I was more concerned with getting the site back up and working.

When the webserver went down, we attempted to bring it back up. It wouldn't come back up, so we went to plan b, diagnose the problem and attempt to repair. Massive catastrophic failure forced us to go to the third option, buy a new server. Unfortunately, we had to wait for some components, hence the 5 days before it was in place... the morning it was finished, it was racked in and BFC was operating again less than 6 hours later, long enough for us to burn in the operating system and get the forums back online.

Contrary to what some would think, BFC does not have a server farm - there is a data server and a webserver. Unlike other sites, this place is not used as a sales conduit directly for my business, nor do I run banner advertising, nor do I charge mandatory memberships for all members. As such, I fund BFC directly out of my pocket, and to hear talk about redundancy and the like from a non-paying member really doesn't impress me, especially from someone who resorts to personal attacks.

If there are other questions about the downtime, feel free to ask them. Save the snide comments for somewhere else.

EDIT: Nevermind, GringoGunsmith is Blammo and Ernie525, and has been banned before.

:D :D :D gota love the plain spoken!!!!! If it doesn't work..... it's probably broke. Worked for hundreds/thousands of years, and still seems to work today. Good post Voodoo:thumbup:

Sayng thanks for the site does not cover it. This site is my favorite source of entertainment. When I get home from work I grab a bite and head for BF to read the new post. I was really worried it was gone forever. I urge all of the members to buy a membership. The hard work of running this forum needs to be rewarded or someday it may be gone.
I just put my money where my mouth is and upgraded to platinum even though my gold membership did not expire till November.
