Doesnt happen very often but I had a blade warp about 1/8"..not quite. Easier to start over or heat and try to straighten?

Redo the heat treatment. It would make life much easier if you had a small forge to get it up to an even heat.

I starightened one that was about like that by heating it to tempering temp(400F) and it worked. Nothing to lose, give it a try my friend.

Hey...did I miss a pic or description?

Shouldn't be a problem to straighten...for a world famous knife maker like you dude! :D (Just yanking your chain! Great review by Kim BTW.)

WHich blades do you guys find harder to correct? Long ones or short?

HAve you ever schwok a blade ala Wayne goddard?

Brian I would have done it straight from the quench once you could handle it
with welding gloves
alt.
Maybe straight from the temper depending on the steel used?
other wise ,back to the drrawing board.. :)

I did 22 blades Sunday night. All damascus, running from 5" blades to a 16" camp knife.Three warped for some reason.I took them hot out of the oil and put them in the vise.A twist hear and a bend there and they were just about home.I put them on the anvil and finished them off with a planishing hammer. Came out fine.Threw them in the oven with the rest.Couldn't tell they had warped at all when the were colled off after temper.

Redo, O-1 can take it if you can. I agree with Brother Mark, get your forge finished and get on with it.

If it's just a minor warp, 1/8" like you said in a meadum to long blade I'd try to straighten. I don't have nearly as much trouble with blade warpage now as I used to, but I still have three large wood rods that I use to straighten blades. Since it's aready heat treated do it straight out of the temper, put the midle rod on the outside of the warp, the two other rods on the oposite side of the blade a little ways away and crank the vise down. The round rods will keep any sharp corners from the blade and make the bend a little more gentile. If you break it at least you'll know what your blades can take. I personaly have never had much luck with O-1 trying to straighten it, it just didn't want to bend for me.

Thanks for the input guys....your right Crex!I do need to get on with the forge ;)

Looks like I'll try to straighten it and see what happens. All else fails its a knife for my boy at Christmas....or just because :D
