To Strip or not to Strip?

I have a new BK7 and BK11 and I'm considering stripping and putting a forced patina on them. I'm just nervous about removing the factory coating and regretting it. I'd love to hear some feedback from everyone who has stripped theirs and if you are happy or regret doing it.

If you use your knives, the coating will eventually wear off anyway. I strip all my coated blades and patina them. You can also search for "acid etching", if you have any artistic ability, and put designs on the blade.

I like mine better stripped and let a natural patina form.
I say strip it. If you regret it you can always buy more! :D

I did and I was satisfied with my results. The coating on my 9 and 2 were coming off due to use so I figured that I might as well remove it. I did a forced patina and used apple cider vinegar.

Hmm...I agree with it and will must gives you the better matching and you can make
design what ever you want to have with "acid etching".

Im gonna go against the grain and say dont strip.

If its the newest gen of beckers, it probably has that rough black coating on it. I stripped all of mine and regretted it for some. Having a black blade is pretty bad ass too, you know... :P

The coating wears down and becomes smooth after a few batoning or chopping sessions.

My problem with patinas is its hard to predict how they will turn out. Unless someone goes and does an experiment on it first and you try their method. I am thinking of duracoating in the future.

Do it! Totally worth it!

If you dont like it it's not the end of the world. You could always buy another one.

I liked my BK15 with the coating on it. Now that I've stripped it, I love it. :) If the blade has the new coating, I say get it gone!

I have never regretted stripping any of them, but I think my BK9 looks badass with half of the coating worn off.

I always regret doing it at first as there's always a bunch of sanding to do. :D Once the sanding is done I love it.

this is the becker forum. Asking wether to strip or not is like asking a stripper to not twirl on a pole...

Psyop, that's one badass piece of leather gear.

Strip! although I do like naturally wearing the coating off...but I think BKs look much more high end without the black stuff stuck to them...
