...that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take... Oh, sorry.

Anyway, What is the general opinion of taping the blade? Does it free you to try stuff you normally wouldn't, or does it make you wreckless?

Also, how long should I stay on a certain level of manip's? Like on Clay's site, should I be able to learn it all in a week or should I take it slow, perfecting each move before going on?

Thanks, again. I'm glad I've got so many pros to answer my questions here.

Earlier, I thought I was getting sloppier as the days go by, but I found out that my handles were out of alignment. *Tap-Tap-Smash-Damn* Fixed now.

Some people believe in taping the blade so you don't get hurt. I believe in learning through trial and error, if you do something wrong in a balisong technique you surely aren't going to do it again. I think I got a little reckless when I taped the blade so when I took off the tape my hands got pretty bad, oh well, I know have an extremely high pain tolerance (especially trying to lift weights with cuts all over your hands

Try both ways and see which one gets you better results.

If you work with a live blade, your digits will let you know if you are progressing too fast. When it all comes together smoothly you can advance with confidence.

Mastering a taped blade is like a yellow belt in martial arts who goes out and purchases a black belt to wear: He/She may have somewhat of a knowledge of what they are doing, but, there will come a time when they are operating well out of their range.

yadda, yadda enough rambling.

My essay on the subject is found on my site at: http://www.balisongcollector.com/cuts.html

I am of the opinion that tape is a sensible training aide when used properly. A balisong is a dangerous toy. It can cut you seriously. It makes sense to cover the edge when you're starting into a complicated new technique.
