This is a James Dickey novel (remember Deliverance) about a gunner shot down over Japan just prior to the firebombing of Tokyo. Just this guy and his kitchen knife against the entire country. Pretty heavy on the brain power type of survival. By the end the protagonist is an absolute animal, killing anything in his path and he is happy about it. Fantastic read! Fint firestarting, knife thoughts, survival clothing, and on and on...
