In the early '80s, my Dad owned a Hardware store and sharpening shop in Austin Tx. One of his regular customer was a Knifemaker. Dad had him make this for me. I have carried a knife since I was 6yrs. old, so Dad thought I would appreciate this. Tell me what it is! ;)>

You are exactly right! I used to carry this one to knife shows just to use it. I figured you boys would peg this thing in a heartbeat! and I was right. I have been using this forum ( for knowledge) for 3 or 4 days now, and i have found information and knowledgeable people! This Forum is Primo!!

A tool to open a folder blade? Wow...

I haven't been in these forums too long, but I have been learning a lot.

Woops silly me, I was thinking some sort of carbide sharpening steel of sorts. Pretty cool though. :0)

Well guys, imagine being a knife salesman, and to show the latest gizmo that's the best thing since sliced light bread and having to open it many times a day. Or running a booth at a Gun & Knife show. How many times are you going to have fingernails to open that stiff-springed gizmo? Makes sense when you think about it. Hence, the Steel Nail! Cool! Thanks for the response!

I'm from Austin where was your Dad's store? And who was the knifemaker?

I do not know the knifemaker, but in the pictures it shows his touchmark. It's the triangle w/ T in the middle. The store was Clyde L. Rackley co. @ 213 Congress. It is no longer there. New buildings everywhere. It closed in '98 when my dad retired.

Buy any chance was your Dad a Freemason? As that is a very Masonic emblem.
