Hi Tom,

I decided to buy one of your Buck/Mayo TNT 172's ....It came yesterday and I love it!

It is a work of art. Too nice for everyday carry. One of the VERY BEST in my collection.

How nice to finally have a knife that can be handled without constantly worrying about cleaning off the fingerprints !

Mine locks up perfectly. I wouldn't even consider giving it the proverbial "whack" test.

The blade is dead centered when closed. WOW. How nice it closes............
Like a true precision instrument.

The edge grind is 99.7% symmetrical and Scary sharp.

Love the fit / feel / finish of the handle design and material. I really got a near perfect one.

At this point, I only have a couple observations and comments.

1. Even though I am right-handed I find it somewhat difficult to open with one hand. I am wondering if there are one of those thumb studs available that would fit and wouldn't detract from the design and appearance. This would also make it easier for left-handed operation.

2. The pocket clip is really tight. It can probably be sprung out but I really hate to do it. I usually wear Levi's and I have to hold the material with my left hand to push it into my pocket. ALSO, it would be a BIG plus if it was drilled so the clip could be moved to the other end. That way, when I pull it from my "right" pocket, it would come out in the "ready" position for one-hand opening.

Other than that...... CONGRATULATIONS to you and BUCK for a superb work.

thanks, and I am sure the Buck team says thanks too. Just grab the end of the clip and pull it up gently.....I have mine so it is about .030" off of the handle, slides on my pants much better that way, I believe they started bending the tip up on the later ones too, that helps a lot. If you can take the clip off and put it in a padded vise with all but the last bent sticking out, and bend the tip it functions much better. TM
If it really worries you, send it to me and I will adjust it.

I will put in my share of congratulations to Tom Mayo, too. Everybody in the forums says great things about Mayo knives. I have no doubt they are very well made and are of the finest quality.

One of these days before I retire, maybe I will be able to afford one.

Tom Mayo is one of those great knife names to come out of Hawaii.
I like him too even though I have not met him.

Hope I am not embarrassing you, Tom.

:) :D
