I have a ZT 0500 Mudd and a Spyderco Manix2 Foliage Green G-10 XHP ~ C101XHP both are NIB. Do you think they're worth sitting on or should I be enjoying them by using them? Do you think they will be very collectable?

Almost everyone will tell someone else to use their knives.

Its quite different when its your own knife.

I see both sides of it. Once you use it, you can never un-use it and restore its virginity. The flip side is that you are going to be worm food in 5 years or 55 years, and what good will it do you to leave behind a box full of unused knives?

So I say its whatever gives you the most pleasure - a battle-scarred user, or a safe queen. There is no wrong answer, because you don't have to answer to anyone but yourself.

Powernoodle you are right my friend. I purchased these knives cause they were appealing to me and I thought they would be useful. Not to use them would deprive me of the pleasure I orginally sought. Oh and the worm food thing can we make that 25 to 55 years?

Good way of looking at this. Besides, if you use your MUDD and don't like it, well, my inbox is almost empty! :D

When I buy a knife that I like so much that I want to keep it in the safe, I buy two!! One for the safe (as a collector), and one for the pocket (as a user). This is a solution that works for me, but it can get expensive. ;)

I always buy to use, but that's just me. Using your knives will help guarantee that 25-50 year worm food thing doesn't become a 5 year worm food thing too.

Some knives are harder to bring yourself to use than others. I cant bring myself to use my S90V military(probably cause i already have a used S30V one) but have no problems using my GPS Sm JYD and Sm Sebenza

With the exception of the knife I keep next to my bed, I don't own any knives that are unused. I can't own a mint knife for more than a couple days before it gets used.

Use them! It would be a damn shame to see hard-use knives like those relegated to 'safe queen' duty. Seriously, the MUDD isn't going to get any uglier with use, and don't you want to find out if CTS XHP lives up to all the hype?

If a knife doesn't get used you will never have any idea if it's any good. If it's kept locked away and untouched, it may go up in value - or it may not. Buying one to keep and one to use is a great idea, but that means you just doubled your spending.

My personal take on the matter is that they are just knives; relatively simple hand tools designed and used for cutting things. Some examples may be seen by people as almost Holy Grails and sacred artifacts but I have trouble subscribing to that particular view. YMMV, and considerably so.

If a knife is said to be a great performer then it must be proven so, otherwise it's just a purdy knick-knack. On the other hand I am also real in knowing that some are just hard to get that first chip, nick, scratch or ding on. When I first got my Para D2 I used the hell out of it and it performs, but now I save it for "as needed" cases and let some of the more common knives perform mundane tasks.

It's all personal and those folks that lock 'em up give others a chance to own LNIB knives when trading and such. :)

I keep a sizable amount of my knives unused and they are only taken out, wiped down admired and photographed. I have what I want for every niche I need for users.(I use around 10 different knives and my users get sold off a lot and replaced over time)

It doesn't bother me at all to have loads of collectors. I'd not own them if I was going to use them all. That makes no sense to me. As I can get my money back anyway pretty easy on all the discontinued ones I own NIB. Using all of them would devalue my collection by at least half!

But, by all means do whatever you please with your own blades, after all you forked over the cash and if it pleases you more to use every single one you own, rather than keep some mint and use some then by all means it's worth it to you to use them all as they are intended to be.

I also recently bought the Manix 2 CTS-XHP, originally as a collectible and not intending to use it but I like it so much that it's my new EDC. It appears to me that this sprint was limited to 1200? and not as limited as say the blue FFG version, which is probably more collectible. (if that makes your decision any easier)

This is true, Frankki, but it worth it to me to spend double to have one minty fresh in the safe. What else am I going to spend my money on, right?

Actually, I spend most of my money on knives, guns, babes, and booze. The rest of it I just waste.

Hehehe. . . .
