To Wood-Inlay, Or not to Wood-Inlay???

Graduating this June...buying a Sebenza. I LOVE the wood inlay special edition model, and granted I can find one, I will be picking one up.

However! I plan to use my knife EVERDAY, carrying it in one of those classy leather belt sheaths. Will the 3M tape and the stabilized wood hold up to everyday torture? I mean, I carry a REKAT now-beating the HECK out of it everyday-and it still asks for more! I am sure I can expect better quality from the CR-Seb, but can the WOOD take it?

Any thoughts-GREATLY appreciated!

Thank You,

I carry a large WIS and use it. Haven't had any problems yet. Mind you, I don't throw it at trees or anything like that. But it is used in a normal cutting fashion, opening boxes, envelopes, and used on foods. It has been washed, covered in blood, dirt and snow, and it still seems to be holding up fine. You will find the wood inlayed sebenzas' to be top notch and very usable. That's what they are made for. Maybe a little prettier than the standard sebbie. Also with wood on the handle, to me it gives better grip; i.e., thicker handles. Nice. I'd get a large one if you can. Hope this helps...

Don't know of anyone that abuses the wood inlays, at least not me, BUT I do use mine and it seems to hold up well. I know that the tape is probably more secure than if it were epoxied, the expoxy could Break free and the wood fall out, where the tape is very annoying and tenacious in it's grip so I am confident in it's assembly.
Plus if by chance something were to happen, I know Chris Reeve will stand up for his knives as long as gross misabuse wasn't the culprit, but even then for a charge it would be fixed.

The wood inlay makes the knife a bit thicker than the plain and feels very good in the hand, go for it, I wish they would do the Classic with wood inlay....or do I? can't afford more of these things!!!

Wood on a Sebenza makes as much sense as
a wood dashboard panel on a tank.

buts thats just my opinion;

and im sticking to it, mark

Dangelo........I have about 4 on order. At this moment, I have 1 large & 1 small not spoken for. The woods are real beauties. As Gary said, they are a little thicker in the hand and feel REAL nice!

I have to admit that Cyberslacker's opinion strikes a chord with me. They are so nice to look at. Works of art indeed. But when I think of using one to the point that I would damage the handles, and it would happen, can I justify the cost? I can't buy a knife to look at, just can't do it.

I might have to go the Mnandi route. that way I can use, but not abuse, and still have wood.

I guess I can't figure out what you guys use your knives for!? What would cause you to damage the wood on an inlayed sebenza? I've carried and used one for almost two years now with no problems. I even dropped it on cement.."OUCH"! Wood still looks as good as the day I got it. I guess we all have a tendency to baby expensive knives, but even the wood inlayed sebenzas' are built for use. Just stick to the BG-42 blades and you shouldn't have any problems. The wood is treated or "impregnated" with a hard resin which makes the wood into an almost plastic. Very tough! I'd think twice before giving up on using a WIS; they really are a nice durable knife.

Wood inlay without a doubt. IMHO the nicest Sebenza CRK makes. And use it too. This cat has many lives. Use it reasonably and it will render a lifetime of cutting excellence and every time you show it to someone it has a wow factor. Although many will gasp if you tell them want it cost you will know it's worth every penny. I concur with the previous posters in that is dresses up a rather plain knife and it gives the handle a rounder contour that feels nice in the hand. Behold my baby!

K-guy, crazy glue will mess up the wood. I got a small amount on my wood and it made a little spot. I almost died! Sent it back to CRK and they refinished it like new and they did it for the cost of postage only! CRK is a class act, they take care of their customers and that is part of what you pay for when you buy one of their products. I can't say enough about their customer service!
