Anyone using them?? The toads really use them and every garden needs a toad...or two.

Toads really use these things? I'll be danged. I always thought they were little gimmicks to get you to spend 7 or 8 bucks on 48 cents worth of wood and penny nails.

I'll look into getting one now. I think a fat friendly toad is a great thing to have for a garden. They keep the bugs down, plus they are just fun to find. Since a toad basically doesn't move around if he doesn't have to, it's fun to find a constant neighbor plopping around the flowers on a regular basis. My wife hates them. Well, she doesn't hate them, but she doesn't like anything that lacks fur:p She's a city girl, but she'll come around:D

I remember the toad that used to live in the fern garden my mom planted when I was a kid. Man, that big guy would barely fit in your hand he was so fat:eek: Now I'm going to have to research a toad house:D Hopefully, the little buggers will stay at "home" and out of the tall grass in the easement. I've hit a couple with the mower, and I feel so bad about it:(

SG---Here's the Key to success> Pick you location for the toad house, not too sunny of an area. Dig out about 3 inches of soil and mix that soil with a cup of sand. Place that mixture back in the hole and put the toad house on top. The loose soil aids drainage and allows the the toad easy digging. We already have a toad in ours. Let us know how you do. Thanks.

This sounds really neato. Please provide a link.

We back up to a swampy pond and have toads aplenty. I love finding them around the garden or patio. My dog, unfortunately, has the ridiculous habit of flipping them. She'll give them a sniff, paw them once, and walk away.

I was trying to take a picture of one of the toads when another short, fat, lumpy thing interjected herself:

Fiddleback---Google, toad house. I do not know how to send a link. Sorry. Let me know if that works for you.
Dr. T--- Great pic! Thanks.

Keith H---I like the clay houses. Thanks for the pic. You really can use anything that provides cover. Even a unique looking rock will do. I took an old piece of brown Aluminum flashing and made a cone-shaped toad house. I call it the toad Tee Pee. You might want to think of placing several houses in your yard or garden.

Neato project for me to do with Hannah one weekend. Thanks guys!

Fiddleback---Your welcome. Let me know which style of toad house you two make!

we get upper-class toads here, with their mansions & estates.

Eat billions of bad bugs they does.
Considered to be good luck in many cultures when you have them around your yard.

I hope they're good luck. I was mowing the lawn a few days ago, and it seemed like every five minutes I was stopping to pick up a toad and move it to the flower beds. They occasionally get in the habit of sitting absolutely still when the mower approaches or trying to outrun it!

One more Easy project for the family. Using 1/4 hard-ware cloth, make a shape like a dome, tipi, log, or a rock. Use your imagination. Mix Smooth mortar-mix with water, stiff consistency, and cover the shape. Let dry for at least one day. That's it. I just made two. The toads will come a-hop'n!! :)
