I am considering buying a small Spyderco I have it narrowed down to the Toad or the Mouse. Unfortunatly I have never handled either, any feedback from the forum would help. Thanks

The Mouse is absolutley my favorite small folder. The design makes it handle like a knife that is bigger. This mouse thinks it is a moose.

I highly recommend it. Fit and finish are excellent and the VG-10 steel rocks.

Although I don't have either yet, I recently handled both. I have to agree with shootist16, the Mouse handles bigger. I do have other VG-10 blades, and I love them.

Mouse, definitely. The Toad is a nice knife but I find the opening hole too small. I've been carrying the Mouse for about six months. I love everything about this knife. Blade shape is great, as mentioned above VG-10 is excellent (my favorite steel,) it cuts much bigger than it measures and construction is first class. Do a search on "Mouse" and you'll find lots of this type of comparison.

agree with shootist.....get the mouse....looks small and handles big....i just got two and have been carring one around for the past week.....it thinks its a bigger knife than it is....i have been very pleased with its performance as well as its fit, finish, blade configuration, and blade steel.....thanks....feverdoc

Well...I'll have to respectfully disagree.

So will Bill McWilliams.

Really though, it just boils down to what you like the best because both the Mouse and the Toad are great little knives. The next really small knife I buy will be a Mouse. However, I chose the Toad first because, IMHO it is a really fine knife.
I'm sure that some other "knife guys" will disagree, but for some reason the Toad's blade seems to be a little sharper right out of the box (as in razor blade!), and when you re-sharpen that same keen edge comes right back. I hate to admit it but, I've cut myself twice with my Toad and I didn't even know about it until I looked down and said, "Whats all this blood doing on my pants"? Naturally, both times it happened, it was in front of my wife. She just shakes her head and smugly states, "You did it again".

It happenes. You like knives, and take it out to admire it frequently, you're going to cut your finger.

My opinion would have the Mouse and the Navigator close to tied, with the Toad in second place.

My fave is the Dragonfly, especially the CF version.

LOVE the Navigator. I have the plain G-10 version (discontinued) and the handle is rock solid and so comfortable! Sometimes I wish I got the serrated version, however...

Haven't handled the Toad or Mouse, but the Toad looks too flimsy for me. I appreciate little knives that look and handle like bigger ones, and feel rock-solid in the hand (hence the Dragonfly being my top choice).

So, between the Toad and Mouse, I would definitely go for the Mouse!

1. Navigator
2. Mouse
Just my opinion...

Guys,
Guess my next Spyderco will be the Mouse based on what I've been reading.
I love my Toads-all 3 of them.
The AUS-8 blade takes a very sharp edge, in fact, I can get a better edge on the Toad than most other Spydercos.
I'm also sold on the Toads Almite coating.
The small hole doesn't bother me, and I would prefer the Toad's liner lock over the Mouse's lockback because you don't have to flip the knife over in your hand to close it.

The Mouse has a bigger hole, more belly on it's blade, and very good steel for sharpening.
I'll have to take your word on it's ergos.
Does the Mouse have a Almite coating ?
Later,Bill

Toad has lots of fans but is not a lefty-friendly model. How about the Mouse? Is it tip up or down, and is the clip reversible?

www.bladeart.com has them cheaper than anyhere I have been able to find. That is where I got mine. Larry is a real pleasure to deal with.

I still like the Pegasus and Dragonfly. But between the aforementioned, I have only handled a toad and I liked it. I will have to go with the toad. Ribbbbbbbbbit!
