In Spyderco's continuing exploration of the possibilities of little lockblade folders, we have the new Dalton Holder (D'Holder) design, the Toad.

Here it is, with a Ladybug and a US penny for perspective.

The blade is 1-1/2 inches of hollow-ground AUS8. The handle as Alumite. MSRP $99.95.

The one in the picture is mine, so they're coming out now. Dealers, including me, should have them for resale in the near future.

Two more SKU's to add on! (toothy or plain)

James, does Toad have a clip? (Also, I'm surprised there's no lanyard hole for keychain attachment.)

I see this as a weakness with the Ladybug. It would make an excellent shirt pocket knife with a clip. A clip would also provide other carry options besides keychain.

Sal, if you're reading. Any chance of a tiny version of Endura/Delica 98 style clips finding their way onto Ladybugs or future micros?

Yes, there is a pocket clip. Mounted high on the pivot end. It covers the end pivot screw, so you would have to remove the clip to adjust it. Mine doesn't neeed adjustment.

I should also mention that this specimen has a good ball bearing detent.

Right now I'm trying to imagine this knife stretched, maybe an inch in both directions, into something long enough to slice a bagel with a circular cut. Call it the Newt?

Or would that just look a lot like the Spyderco-Centofante? I still like my old aluminum C25. I carried one of those around the Knifemakers Guild show a couple of years ago as a standard of comparison, and I didn't find many hand-made liner locks that worked better, but I find a lot that didn't work as well. Maybe an Alumite version of the C25 by the same outfit that did the Toad?

Ah! The joys of more SKU's!

That is one of the uglist knives I have ever seen. The blade geometry and handle ergonomics do nothing for me either. It does however look to have a slightly larger opening hole than the Ladybug which is nice.

No offense intended but it seems like a very expensive box opener, what else could you cut with it.

LD

It looks as if it would be hard to open due to the shortness of the blade. The Ladybug has about the same length handle with a longer blade.
