Toaster Oven Tempering PID Setup

I recently bought a PID, stripped my toaster oven, lined it with Kaowool, and put everything back together. The toaster oven seems to hold heat quite well, but my issue is the PID. For the life of me, I can't get the temperature to hold even remotely close to the set temperature. It will drop a few degrees below, then the PID will come on at 100%, hold at 100%, but shuts off too late. The temp usually goes about 25ish degrees above, then start cooling off. This is the cycle. I've tried auto tuning, and random settings, but nothing seems to make a difference. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? I have the Inkbird 106HV. Thank you

I bought an Inkbird a little while back and had the same issues. There's a way to fix it in the settings I believe, but I had a REX-C100 that's worked perfectly off the self on my HT oven so I just bought another for like 10 bucks and saved the hassle.

Interesting. I’ve watched a bunch of videos and tried numerous things from those videos. No success. Maybe I’ll try another device.

First try a few auto-tune runs. It should be able to "learn" the delay time to keep things inline.

Many PIDs learn after running for a while, so give it some time. See if it settles down after running a few hours. Also try several two-three hour runs with shutting the power off between them. This may help it learn and remember the best parameters..

Also, set the hysteresis to a reasonable range.

Thank you

Thank you, Stacy! I’ll fart around with it a little more. It sounds like it’s all in the settings somewhere.

I had a similar problem when I made my electric furnace. In my case, I connected the thermocouple to the PID using standard hook-up wire. My temperature bounced around, but mostly went up. My pyrometer read 1900° F when the set temperature of the PID was 1500° F! Feeling a bit stupid, I ordered some thermocouple wire from McMaster-Carr. Now my furnace temperature is stable. I posted a paper on my DIY website (www.bellablades.com) showing the wiring diagram and a spreadsheet with all of the sources for building a stable, electric furnace fro making knives. I hope that helps.
