I see other posts discussing Tobacco tins being used for survival kits. Where do you guys find these tins?

Hoah! (Its an Army thing!)

I got mine at a Tobacco/Magazine shop when I picked up the latest Baseball Weekly. Most of your Tobacco stores should have something that you can use. Mine is a Dunhill Tobacco tin it cost about $7. I the brush side of a grinder to remove the paint.

why remove the paint? Do you reseal it with something afterward to prevent rust?

I found tins online at www.tobaccodirect.com prices looked reasonable -round and rectangular shapes. Does anyone know if the round is roughly the size of a copenhagen snuff tin?

Thanks for the help guys. I will check out the local stores and then I will go the the web site if I have to. I checked it out today and it was what I needed. Thanks again for the assist.

Sender I stripped off the origial paint because it was dark green. I then painted it a bright orange. I may go ahead and clear coat over that.

Ok, that makes sense. How about a splotch of that orange or white 3M reflective tape on the top and bottom .

If you are looking for another container, Cheaper Than Dirt has a Swedish aluminium box 6.5" long, 3.75" wide, and 2.5" tall. Price is $5.97. They also have a French and a Dutch aluminium mess kit that would be excellent for a survival kit. Price is $5.97 for the Dutch kit and $3.97 for the French kit. www.cheaperthandirt.com

FOUND 'EM! A Store right here in my home town had them. I ended up with a Dunhill rectangular 50G tin. It is about the size of a deck of cards. I will let you know how it works. They had some others but I am not a heavy smoker. This tin will last a while. It was only areound $6.00. Thanks again for your helpl!

You might ask at a camera shop if they have any of the aluminum cans used to store bulk film. Seal with electrician's tape. They're a bit larger than tobacco tins. Another option is at your supermarket; there are a lot of new plastic food storage containers that would work well.
