Tobin Machines - Universal Blade Jig

I haven't used one ... yet ... but plan on building or buying one.
I saw one in Benjamin Kamon's shop. He and Tobin developed the jig. It seems really efficient.

I would have bought one this morning if the were in stock at Maritime. I stumbled upon a video of it months ago and haven't been able to get the idea out of my head. If you make one, keep us posted.

I had to do a search to remember what that jig is - once I saw the photos I remember looking at that a few months ago and planned to make one. Just gotta get round to it. I do think it's one of the best designs for grinding bevels I've seen.

Yep Stacy - when you do build on be sure to do your usual GREAT WIP - I'll be looking for it.

No but I plan on getting one eventually. It's a very efficient and flexible design and fits with my current method of grinding already. The people that have them so far are very positive in their feedback so far that I've seen.

I have that jig and love it.
With the lever i use to do the first 50% of my grinds. This goes nice and fast.
The rest i do freehand untill finish grinding.

Also what is really good for to use it without the lever for hollow grinding s grinds.
Just use those plates as an guide , and be able to adjust that closer or further away from the contactwheel.

Then just put pressure by hand and getting nice and straight hollow grinds.

I know this is an older thread, but I recently purchased one of these.

Haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but it has to be better than using a push stick.

Hopefully no more burnt fingers when roughing out blades. :)

I've had mine for several months now. I have found it is better for taller knives like chef's. Not as good for pairing/steak knives. Of course, the likelihood of me doing it wrong is high, but it's not rocket surgery.
