Hello all,
I just got in a new knife so I thought I would write a review for you. I bought a Tobin Smith camp knife here on the exchange.
The specs are as follows...
Overall length: 10 1/8"
Blade, tip to handle: 5 3/16"
Blade, cutting edge: 4 7/8"
Steel: 3/16" thick O1
Handle: Green canvas micarta laminated over orange G10
Hardware: Pins and thong tube are both 416SS
Sheath: Hand-stitched leather
Tobin and his wife Leigh Anne run the shop and have been making knives full time since 2006.
His website has alot of information on how he makes his knives and his warranty.

The box came and I must say it was the most well packed knife I have received from any maker or seller to date.
The knife is sealed in a food saver type bag, great idea. With the bad rain storms we have been getting I am always worried to come home to a soaked box.
Close up of sealed knife.
note piece of scrap leather to protect the tip, nice touch.
fresh air!
The sheath and buisness card along with a sample pack of Tuff cloth, (nice touch)
The measurements are right on and this thing feels great in the hand. The balance point is right about where the finger grove is behind the integral guard. The palm swell is the correct shape and you just want to hold it.
This one has a orange liner that really looks great.
The blade is wide, a little over an inch and a half, and has a great profile. It has a slight convex edge that sings.
This knife came razor sharp, one of if not the most sharp knife I have gotten on the forums to date. It slices paper like nothing and shaves hair faster than a bic!
The fit and finish are very well done. It is user that looks great. The pins are flush with the handle as is the lanyard hole.
The sheath is a brown leather that is hand stitched by Tobin. The quality is there. It is a simple design but one that feels like it will hold up to real use. And the stitches are tight, and if you have ever hand stitched leather you know the bleeding fingers that are a result of doing it this way, kudos Tobin:thumbup:
The sheath swallows the knife but still leaves enough to easily access. You should not lose this knife.
Close up of knife in sheath, love the orange liner.
Overall pic of knife and sheath
I had to look hard to find things on this knife. The only two things I notices were a couple of rough spots on the finger groove that irritate your index finger, they have to be filed or sanded off.
You have to look close to see it
And there were two small spots on the flat of the blade near the edge, possibly old rust in the steel that was not fully removed.
I do not believe these to be any concern for a user knife. And I am sure with Tobins guarantee and positive service he would fix it up. The spots may be a possible concern to some since O1 is a high carbon steel, but like any carbon steel you just have to take care of it after use. And a user knife will get scuffed and marked up. It adds to its character.
The spine is flat and feels like it would be good for a fire stater, I will see later on and post.
I will post more as I get the chance to use it.
In closing for now,
I am very happy with this knife and knife maker. He is very pleasant to deal with and very prompt.
The knife is a great feeling and looking one. I really look forward to getting a chance to really test it out!
I can honesty say I recommend Tobin Smith's creation so far.:thumbup:
I hope you all enjoyed this and thanks for looking.
