Just wanted to post some pics and a review for a custom folder from Tobin Smith.

Back in January I came across a folder Tobin had posted and decided I wanted something similar. Here's the original link:

I contacted Tobin and put in an order. Later I decided I wanted a modified version with lignum scales and a different blade shape. Tobin sent me the knife and some finished product pics around 3 weeks ago. Here it is:

The backspacer, clip, blade, and screws have a bit of acid etching. The overall construction is solid and the knife feels great in the hand. The scales were cut out just as I requested. Tobin was great to work with and was willing to work on minor updates/requests as we went along. $300 total.

While I know there's plenty of nice production and used custom knives out there, getting to work on a new custom was a great experience.

I like the blade shape. Useful.

I also like how he relieved the clip mount. I really dislike non-flush mounts. Just that extra touch elevates the quality.

Thanks for the post. Nice.

Thanks for the heads up. I placed an order for one of his knives as well. The fit and finish look very good, especially considering the price.

Nice knife. I agree with Coop, the relieved clip mount is an excellent design element and a good sign that the maker thinks their designs through.
