Well, my pile of axe/hammer heads arrived today. It's been a busy day in the shop :D

Starting off with the double bit. Goodbye rust, and hello patina.

Oh, and hello logo! Turns out the unmarked double bit wasn't quite so unmarked.

Same with the other one, although... It's not much of a logo any more. I guess I can call that one 'Mo'.

After a few hours, I've got a nice set of tools coming together. I actually got these all hung on handles, but it was so dark by the time I finished that I couldn't get any decent pictures... :(

Of these, the hammer and boys axe are both Craftsman made, the double bit is the Keen Kutter, and I'm not sure what the weird maul hammer thingy or hatchet are. Any sign of a logo on them is looong gone.

How do you clean them up so well without taking off the patina?

Wire wheels. You an get big 4-8" ones for a grinder, or smaller ones for a drill. You can actually take the patina off with them, but if you're careful you can just get the rust and leave them looking very cool :)

You know I've been trying to figure out what that maul thing is myself. They look awesome and I would love to have one.

The big one weighs just a bit more than a full sized single bit head - I'm trying to find a use for it right now. I have a 28" maul handle, and I'm thinking about using it as a miniature splitting maul...
