Today my Vic Farmer did nothing special at all.

I used the blade to open a cardboard container.

I used the awl/reamer to poke a small hole in something, then used it to get some medicine out of a blister pack (hate those things).

Used the large screwdriver to pry the lid off of a spice jar.

That’s it. Nothing Earthshaking, by any means.

Didn’t need the saw, can opener or bottle opener at all, although they were there if I had of needed them.

That’s the thing, though: day in and day out, 365 days a year, this thing handles countless mundane tasks perfectly. Most days it does nothing special, just quietly makes my life easier.

Just thought you might want to know.

My red alox Farmer opened a Father's Day card's red envelope, and a DVD in a red (and white) giftwrap.

same here! i love mine. hate to say it but its replaced all my folders with pocket clips. never carry them anymore:eek::D

I count on my Vic Camper much the same. Though I almost always have a larger utility blade, my Vic opens bottles, corks, cans, prunes off branches in the garden, scrapes, prys, screwdrives, helps undo knots - all sorts of non-glamourous stuff.

I think most people don't use their SAKs for very exciting purposes, but their SAKs are often used a lot and make life a lot easier. My sister has a pink Victorinox Classic on her keyring, it looks like a toy, until she tells you see the many things she uses it for.

I definately love my red and silver alox farmer... but since i rarely go outdoors, the soldier is thinner and more pocket friendly to me....

doesnt mean i dont like farmer at all!

yup, i almost never use the saw... but handling an alox farmer just gorgeous and super solid in my hands...

I carry a small wallet in my left front pocket. The Farmer lies in the pocket underneath the wallet. I have forgotten I had it there a few times, and thought I had gone out without a knife. :)

Funny, isn’t it, how it’s the extraordinary things that we usually remark upon, like “I used my sak to perform surgery that saved someone’s life,” or “I built an aircraft carrier using nothing but my sak and grey paint,” but we never think about the small things.

My Alox Farmer is capable of important tasks, I’m sure, but it’s the little things we do every day — and never remark on — that makes it special. It’s always there in my pocket, ready for anything, just waiting to do... whatever. It’s such a constant companion that I hardly ever think about it; I just pull it out, use it, and put it away. Without thought, I trust it to do anything I need it to do, because it’s proven itself trustworthy time after time.

It’s just there: unremarkable yet, somehow, perfect for me.

I love my quiet little Farmer.

I bought my red farmer over 2 years ago. It's been in my pocket since. It's also the last pocket knife I've purchased (this has to be breaking a forum rule, right?). It's hard to justify buying anything else because it wouldn't be used.

i wish the victorinox made a 3 layer 93mm alox like soldier or farmer and put a scissor in the middle insted of saw... it would be more urban life friendly...

just wishfull thinking though, since i know they would have to make a new scissor desigan to fit the 93mm and use a different kind springs insted the curent one with the back tools.

I have this Scibeer modified climber. I use it all the time. I'd like an alox 93mm with the small phillips also.

My Farmer is my constant companion every day no matter what. It does not leave my person until I crawl in bed. Then it "sleeps" on the night stand next to me. I would rather go barefoot than be with out it. Like every one else's Farmer, it does modest tasks every day without a complaint. It has gotten me out of a pinch a few times. last season during a bow hunt I used it to clear up my shooting lane up a bit. Once back at camp with a deer on the pole, I realized that I had not brought my fixed blade hunting knife with me (RAT Cutlery). I used my farmer to skin, gut, and quarter that deer without a problem. A quick sharpening afterward and it was ready for my next task. The Farmer has also cleaned COUNTLESS small game for me on my "one day hunting adventures". I've use it for everything from carving roasting poles for rabbits/squirels, cutting up my dinner, making improvised tent pegs, punching the paint out of fishing jig hook eyes, making minnow traps from old two liter bottles, opening camp bean cans, clearing those shooting lanes I mentioned earlier, emergency sleeping bag zipper repair, punching extra holes in my belt when the camp food is too good to know when to quit, fixing the kid's toys, opening packs of batteries, and just plain providing me with a sense of security knowing it's riding in the bottom of my pocket. There sure is not much I can't handle with my Farmer. It is truely one of my most valued tools for everday life. God willing I don't loose it, I can't see replacing it with anything else in my lifetime. I can say that if the unfortunate day ever comes that I do loose it, I will replace it with another Farmer quicker than Speedy Gonzales. Undelay, undelay!

I modified the Marine rifleman's creed a little bit.

This is my Farmer. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My Farmer is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My Farmer, without me, is useless. Without my Farmer, I am useless. I must use my Farmer truly. I must cut better than my task requires. I must use my Farmer wisely.

My Farmer and myself know that what counts is not the cuts we make, the screws we drive, nor the holes we bore. We know that it is the use that counts. We will do what’s necessary.

My Farmer is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its blades, its saw and its can opener. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my Farmer clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will go through life together.

The Farmer really is an extraordinary SAK. It can just accomplish so many tasks so well. The alox is so much tougher then the standard cellidor models as well. With a Farmer, you feel as if it's indestructible and will last a lifetime. It is also one of the few SAKs that could be used for gutting fish or in your pocket at a wedding and it wouldn't be out of place... I would be in heaven if they made a four layer SAK that had the same tool compliment as a Farmer with a locking PE blade and scissors That would be the closest to perfection possible!

dont have a farmer but I have the alox electrician and it is perfect! has the saw to and I use it alot. simple classy and doesnt stop working. and price is excelent, whats not to love. cool thread:thumbup:
