Every now and then you have a day that starts bad and just keeps getting worse...that was today for me. A couple of days ago I took one step out on the porch not realizing the freezing rain had been coming down...result was a cracked tailbone. It is sorta like a cracked rib or sternum...every movement makes it hurt, there are no comfortable positions, and there is absolutely nothing a doctor can really do for it. So, despite the sore bum, I decided to accompany my Dad, my brother, and a couple friends to the Indy 1500 Gun and Knife show this morning. I wasn't really looking for a gun but I knew there would be a number of decent knife dealers there and I needed some AR parts as well. Well the 1 1/2 hour ride sucked on my tailbone, prices were sky high on parts and accessories, including knives (I saw a Browning Ice Storm that CDNN sell for under $30 with a $90 price tag, even modern Case knives were priced over retail). Oddly enough firearm prices including EBRs were extremely reasonable. The show was very crowded, very hot and we scooted out fairly quickly. I got home thinking today was a complete bust only to find the mailman had come a-callin'! Here was today's mailbag goodies...

First envelope, with much thanks to jackknife, was a forum giveaway knife. This is a little Victorinox Cadet 2, a nice slim SAK with alox scales. As it was a gift to me I am going to gift it to my Dad who doesn't have a EDC SAK. I added a lanyard I just wove and will give it to him tomorrow. He is a new member on the forum btw so if you see a post from GLV that's my Pop!

Second envelope contained two knife sheaths I ordered. I found these online and they looked very nice. Handmade down in Azle Texas at D.M. Bullard Leather Mfg, these are a simple belt type sheath. The ones I bought were made to fit a basic trapper and like sized knives. In the pic one has a trapper and the other has a Bulldog Moose. It fit all knives of that size snugly but not so tight as to make drawing the knives difficult. I can't see a knife falling out of them either....great fit. Bullard does make these in a couple of different sizes, I am going to see if he can do one for the Case Sharktooth I just picked up as well. These cost $19.99 each shipped. And yes...one of these is for Pop as well. (Someone has to take care of the ol' fart...lol)

Third envelope held an inexpensive knife but one in a pattern I have always liked. I have a couple of the old Pacific Cutlery Elk Horn Sharks but I saw the Schrade version and even tho it is made overseas, at the price I decided to get one. I was pleasantly surprised by both fit and finish as well as the sharpness of the knife. Out of the box it would shave hair but pulled and caught just a touch. Five passes on each side on the white sticks in my Spyderco Tri-Angle and it shaved smoothly. I have always looked at this pattern as a non-disposable box cutter and truthfully the coping blade design is a good shape for lots of chores. One fault however...the shield fell out when I opened and closed it for about the fifth time...lol...oh well...goes with the day and it's nothing a spot of epoxy won't fix.

So despite the morning down side to the day I am finishing on a happier note. Again thanks to jackknife and I hope y'all found nice surprises in the mail too!

Geez.. Sorry to hear about your tailbone, thats gotta be uncomfortable.

Nice snag on the sheaths. I have seen those listed and wondered how the quality is on them. Looks like they are perrty nice. Priced good too.
That is an interseting Schrade. I've never seen one of those before.

The sheaths are of excellent quality and I am picky about my leather. I normally have my gun leather handmade by either Null or Kramer but I will be ordering a couple holsters from this guy...very nice stuff.

Ouch! I hurt my tail bone when I was a teenager. I was wrestling with a friend at youth group and I was holding him and we fell back and I landed on my tail bone on a cement basement floor. I don't know if I broke it or not, but it hurt for about 4 months. I hope your pain goes away soon. Glad your day got a little better. I got some knives in the mail today too. I have to photo them and post them soon.

+ 1 on all this too.. Absintheur.

Take it easy on the tail bone there, partner. I bruised mine some years back and it hurt, and hurt bad.:grumpy: Its hard for me to imagine a broken TB, ouuuch!. I think that's where the phrase CYA came from.. Get well soon in any event.

I've also looked into the tough looking gun leather style sheaths you've got there and I am about to order one or two myself.. And its especially hard to beat $20.USD shipped to your doorstep..:)

Also, look forward to your Pop chiming in over in our little neck of the woods here.

God Bless,

Anthony

I'm sorry to hear about your tailbone---I can somewhat relate to your pain, my mom's broken her tailbone twice in the last year and hasn't been very happy at all about it. OUCH!

Glad your mailman was at least good to you. :D

Ab,
I am probably the only guy that noticed the Indiana Bat statues. Most non-wildlife or cave people don't have Bat statues ?...I am Ozark Big-Eared man myself, Bat wise that is. I like that odd knife. But, all mine have to say BUCK. Unless given to me..........300Bucks

Thanks for the good thoughts all...what is truly ironic is the timing. My plan for the new years was to drop some weight and help my heart. To that end I ordered a Bowflex treadmill, just got it put together the day I busted my bum...lol...be a bit before I can try it out.

Looks like Christmas again at your Home!
Those sheaths look well-made, may have to get a few myself!
Sorry to hear you are suffering...when I was a little kid, I mustered up the courage to go down a fire escape for the first time...the bottom portion was chained off, so I removed the chain & climbed all the way to the top...failed to notice the bottom portion was not connected...thus the CHAIN! DOH!
I landed flat...more like splat! Couldn't breathe for seemed like forever!
Then had to walk home 3 blocks...
STILL HURTS TO THINK ABOUT THAT FIRE ESCAPE...IT SURE BIT ME THAT DAY BACK IN 1963!
Hang Tough...Hope you heal up & hair over fast!
So to speak...
