Today I am not working, allowing a day for yesterdays rainfall to dry up before returning to my partially finished swimming pool, and also to celebrate having once again received a blue ribbon...er...sticker on my rough-in electrical work from a very finicky inspector (thanks, Phil!). On off days, I poke around on here and annoy folks, and do required tool maintenance.

Alas, my Gerber diamond hone was history, so I went to the local collectable shop for a new one. Looking through his display cases, I found a "butterfly action" diamond hone made by Diamond Machining Tech, Inc., in Marlborough, MA. I bought the "fine" version, but spied a tan box too. A NIB Sharpie! "How much?" It was marked $30, and offered at $27, and dang if I didn't almost buy it! But.... a gray box? "Que es?" A 154UH Badger drop point hunter, also NIB! Awwww.... That I couldn't pass at the same $27! Then making small talk with the owner, I mentioned that I might want the 152OT later if it was carbon steel, not stainless, but that he likely wouldn't want me to test his new knife. Surprise! "I don't care. Test it if you like." So... I'll be making a trip back there next week.

This donkey has another corncob!:D

A NIB 154UH for 27$!

Jesse James couldn't have done much better with a fistfull of Colt SA.

Nice find at a very good price.

Yup! That's our Codger........The Jessie James of Schrade collectors! :D :D :D

Good job Mike!

I was doubly surprised. Last MSRP on this one was $39.95, but even that was in 1997, eight years ago. And the price was total, including our nearly 10% sales tax, so the actual price was about $25.00. I had actually expected to find a 152UH Wolverine first, since a few more of them were made (1994-98, five years). The 154UH was made from 1994-97, four years. Granted, that is not a huge difference in production, but still 25% more. There was a 2003 re-issue of Badgers and Wolverines in blisterpacks, but I have no idea how many, so perhaps they were produced in near equal quantities. Now, I have to find the 152UH in a deal!

Yup. Mark it down. I am posting this one just to let some of you know that I do sometimes pay full retail for a Schrade. Usually it is an older one, or one of some rarity. This time it was a pattern I have been searching for quite a while, and getting the 154UH just spurred my interest in obtaining one.

These were only made for five years (1994-98), then discontinued. Last MSRP in 1998 was $41.95, and would be over $60 in today's dollars if still produced.

I must mention that there was a reissue in '03 packaged in clampacks for the Marts (152UHCP), though it is anyone's guess as to how many were produced. As much as I like the 152OT, adding one of these to my collection was a must. And this seems to be the going price for one NIB now, as a search of the current and ended auctions shows.

This knife has one of Schrade's "recycled" names, used on the 162UH in 1982-85, Wolverine. It will look good with the 154UH Badger, and who knows, I may find a good user of this pattern before next deer season.
