Today I visited a flea market in my old college town. I'd been there several times before, and seen a fella with a case full of old knives, but I never had the cash to do much but ogle. Today, however, I had some bills along, so I was looking forward to perusing his inventory. Lo and behold, I get to his booth and there's nothing left! He's sold his old knives and replaced them with Rough Riders. I was disappointed, but determined to make the best of it. While perusing the RR selection, I noticed an Old Timer 194OT hiding behind a couple of boxes. Asked to see it, and it was nearly perfect. Full blade, great snap, etc. I carry a 194 on a fairly regular basis, but it doesn't hurt to have a backup!

Then, I took a chance and asked the kid helping me out if grandpa had anything "special" hidden in the back. Sure enough he did! The kid opened up a little briefcase looking thing to reveal a few old tree brand and hen and rooster congress patterns. He also had a near mint 8OT with box and papers.

I walked out with both of them in my pocket for a very reasonable price. I feel like a kid at Christmas, and wanted to share!

Congrats!

Nothing better than a good old knife finding an appreciative new owner.

In all my visits to flea markets, and there have been many visits, I have found a grand total of one decent traditional knife. But what a knife, turn of the century IXL pearl handled little beauty. It absolutely stands out in my collection, the pearl is mesmerizing. Makes me want to find an excuse to head down and see the wares tomorrow.

New rule... No one is allowed to tell stories about the knives they found/bought unless it is accompanied by pictures! LOL, I wish we had flea markets around here, then again, instead of broke most of the time, I'd be broke all of the time. Good for you to think to ask what else he had hidden!
