Think I did OK here - all from one garage sale guy who specializes in old tools:
We have a Superior crosscut saw, a Millers Falls plane, 5 single bit axes (2 Plumbs, 1 Kelly, and two "mysteries"), 2 double bit axes (a Kelly and a Collins) and one Kelly double bit with no handle. All the axe heads need to be cleaned and sharpened and most of the handles need to be replaced. If I can save the red Plumb handle, I would like to but it is doubtful.

2 Days ago I told my grandson I would fix him up with his very own vintage axe but at the time I had nothing to work with. Guess I do now.

Paid $75 for the whole haul.

Dang nice job!! I never have time to roam the yardsales and the local flea market is pretty weak. I did score an minty Kelly Perfect Jersey head there for 6.00 and a decent Mann single bit for 8.00. Mostly just no names for practicing on. Heads fro 3.00 and handles for 4.00 but makes for a good way to pass time.

Looks like some decent old wood to work with on some of those too. Nice haul.

Unfortunately there are serious issues with all the single bit handles; but perhaps I could cut a couple of them off and just have shorter handles? Or has anyone ever turned an axe handle into a longish hatchet handle?? I might try that.

Great score, Col.!

I'm focused on the swell on that haft at the far left. I've only held a few like that and they felt real good in the hand. You might re-use that with a hatchet.

Now you need to find jointer for that saw.

Thanks for all the kind comments - actually I am most excited about the saw. I will clean it up, try it out, see if anyone around here still sharpens these things. Not ready to give up my Stihl chainsaws but between axes and this crosscut saw I might have some fun and even maintain an emergency capability. Firewood is important to our lifestyle.
Wish there were a saw sub-forum where I could learn something about hand sawing firewood. Because I know nothing. :-)

Garage sales here never have the good stuff. All I ever find are worn out cloths and worn out or out of date appliances.

Good find. Congrats.

Great hall! Could I talk you into a close up of that strange fawns foot on the first single bit? Reminds me a little of this one.

Sure does look similar Garry3 - it's all split farther up but I think I can make a hatchet or camp axe handle with it.

Thanks Col.
That must have been the easiest and most economical way to cut off the excess after they came off the lathe. No further labor required. Cut different and chamfer the edges and you would have a traditional fawns foot.
