Hello Hogs,

Got my first chance to fondle a Busse and a Rat today.

I've been doing all sorts of research/reading on this great forum over the past few weeks, and have found myself returning here over and over. After all the reading, I've decided I would like a glas of the koolaid, but I've been leary of pulling the trigger without at least copping a good feel or two. Buying a good knife is such a personal thing, and without having an idea of how it would fit in my hand, I'd be very uncomfortable about spending Busse money.

So I went to a local gun/knife show today looking to add to my ammo stockpile and maybe find a few knives to fondle. Lo and behold:

The GW, which I think was a fatty, was marked $220, and the Sterile Ratweiler was marked $325, though the seller said he'd go $300.

I had been seriously thinking about a GW up until 3 days ago, when my wife and I were talking and she suggested I go bigger, snce I have a good, big folder for EDC on my CQC-8, as well as having a 3" fb for under-arm carry in my CRKT Triumph Necker.

Regardless, I was impressed with the GW. It felt a bit small for my hands, but like holding a Colt, it felt good--solid, ergonomic, and thick enough to dig a hole, or pry open a window with.

The Ratweiler was a bit too big for me, and I was not patricularly feeling the handle on it, but again, fit and finishes was VERY nice. Jerry Busse and his family know how to make knives.

So now, here I am trying to decide between spending nearly 400$ on an NO E (which looks like EXACTLY what I'm looking for), or under 300$ for a Fehrman Last Chance, which ALSO looks like what I need/want, and is also cheaper.

Ultimately, I was very happy to finally be able to handle a Busse and a Rat. Now I know why you people walk around with CamelBak's full of cherry sugar water.

: )

Only show I've seen a Busse is at Blade.

That GW looks urban, not the newer satin/tan that was(maybe still is) $187 at the BCS. So that's not that good a deal, but it was the only there, so I guess it may have been.

Now that you know the feel and quality just jump on in and look for the model that you want. Ask any question here about size, feel and such since you won't get many chance's to hold one before buying. Plenty will respond to help you in your selection.

You know you really NEED one:thumbup:

that case looks familar was it Leonards set up a a suncoast gun show ? If so hes had the rat over 6months and the warden about half the time if its him .He has been a reasonable guy to deal with in the past ,microtechs and daltons . Just wondering if it was him ? Where was the show located ?

Oh, I already know it's an NO E I'm looking for, but I'm not sure I'm looking to spend a car payment for it, ya know?

And yeh, it would have been nice to see those at thrift store prices...however they were BOTH pristine.

Don't know the guy's name, but it was a heavyset white guy with blond hair. Seemed reasonable enough, and he had a lot of pretty good knives, Reeves, MercWorx, the rat, Busse, Swamprat. I actually got a chance to hold a coupla Sebenzas too. Don't mean to start a flamewar, but I don't see why everyone raves about those knives. Fit and finish was very nice, but the knife felt plain. Reminded me of a Douk Douk I was given once, though of course the Sebbie was nicer and more well built.

Also had a chance to see a Warren Thomas custom...NOW THAT WAS AN IMPRESSIVE FOLDER.

The GW looks like DC/Tan, the second model offered at the CS. IIRC they where $187.

Oh, and I'mGatMan!, welcome to the insanity !

The NO-E is s sweet knife !

When he said it was a Fatty I thought it looked like the urban/tan.
After looking again it does look to be DC, good eye:thumbup: And also a better buy than I had though if DC

If the Rat was too big and you have trouble finding an NO-E try the BATAC on for size, very versatile knife and more readily available.

Yeh, I see a LOT of the BATAC's for sale, but I'm looking for something with an Ergo grip, and it seems all the Ergos are much older blades. Wonder why they stopped making 'em...

About two years ago I picked up a Basic 3 at a local gun show for $35.00 new. he didnt know what it was because it was steril, after I bought it I showed him the Busse on the side of the resiprene grip. very hard to see. he still didnt know who Busse was.

Hell of a score! Congrats.
