the hatchet is loose on the handle so not sure if it can be saved or needs replaced yet
the Eastwing is pretty much a solid chunk of steel so no damage there and it is in pretty good shape

the best part, the two of them, were nice an cheap

The Hatchet looks like it has been used much. Good find.
Did you pick up that anvil also?

the anvil did NOT come from the flea market
it came from a family member who is a welder its probably about 50 years old
has a hardened top on it already and weighs around 50 lbs, just need a stand for it now.
Kind of debating about a 3-4' tall cut out of OAK or maybe heart of Pine. We fell a lot of
trees at work and I'm sure I can get either eventually if I'm patient. Just bolt it down
on top of a nice chunk of solid wood and commence to using it for what I got it for.

Make a fist and let it hang at your side. That's the height you want the top of your anvil at.

oh I know where I want it, this aint my first one
have a 100lb + one at work, its on a concrete filled pipe header bolted down in the concrete
just a matter of getting the material I want, we drop trees all the time here at work

Dave, I would get Elm if you have it. Less checking and splitting. Winter cut would help also.

Elm is actually kind of scarce down here in South Florida
We have lots and lots of River Oak, the damn things grow to epic size here.
I have seen lots of them well over 40 FEET in diameter they just grow big here.

The Elm here are pretty smallish, and even the occasional Hickory is a bit small.
It must be the soil just isn't what they require to grow properly. Very sandy and
acidic soil here, and lots of standing water most of the year. Ideally I would want a
stump cut off of a Cypress tree, but they are a protected species now.
