Hi,

Here are some pics of our hike today in Manitoba (Whiteshell)

Came across an area which is being actively worked by beaver. My guess is that next year this will be under water.

Here is the lodge:

This rather large tree was circumferentially gnawed... a good wind and this will be going down. There were numerous such trees in the area. (NATO canteen for scale)

The beavers were getting artistic here: :)

These were the knives we had along. Mine are the Woodlore and the Neilson. I bought my two daughters and future son-in-law Fallkniven F1s with custom handles (black & red G10; orange G10; blue G10). My wife uses the blue handled Busse Bony Active Duty:

More pics to follow...

This is a nice view of a black spruce bog:

Here is a creek, where water has carved a path in the ice:

We stopped to build a fire and brew some pine/spruce tea. My daughters built the fire (properly... with a good base, tinder, kindling, etc). They have learned well! They used a fire steel to light it. There's a pic of my daughter having just practised lighting some birch bark with her fire steel (it looks as though she is about to grab the blade of her F1, but that wasn't the case) :)

That's a Crusader cup with the clip-on bail

Looks like you had a blast! Interesting find with the gnawed trees! I'm diggin the Busse AD. I have been wanting one with the blue/black g10! She's a beaut!

looks like fun :)

who handled your F1's? they look good

Thanks. I'm quite sure that the black/red G10 was done by Bark River, which I bought from KnivesShipFree.com

The blue and the orange ones were done by JRE

I'm waiting on a blue handled F1 3G from JRE... looking forward it! :)
That will be a bit more of a challenge for them, as they'll have to mortise the tang (Fallkniven didn't make any 3G blade blanks for the F1, so JRE will be removing the original handle)

Interesting pics I take it you live near the whiteshell, I am amazed at how many Manitobans are on blade forums

Here we are crossing a beaver dam early in the hike:

Here we are fuelling the fire after my daughter started it:

Great title. Looks like an awesome adventure and very trusted and well tested blades you've got there!

I just see a lost opportunity. You're supposed to stick your smallest blade on hand in one of the beaver cut trees and tell us how good it is at chopping.

I do not know much about beavers but in a book I read "Three against the wilderness" one realise just how important they are for the ecosystem. Thanks for the pictures.

How is the Woodlore treating you? I still think that is one of the nicest knives there is.

Nice pics. Don't think I have seen a hanging handle for a canteen cup like that before. Did you make it? Is it removable?

Thanks for the comments everyone :) We had a great day!

:) I should have thought of that!

I love the feel of it. It's my most carried blade for hiking/canoeing.

Thanks. It's a clip-on piece made for the cup. It's available through BCB
