The Postman brought me a knife I had forgotten all about buying. It came from the Land Down Under and was in transit for long enough it had slipped my mind...lol. This is what I would classify as a camp knife. Blade length is 5 1/4 inches, overall is 10 1/2, blade thickness is about 1/8 of an inch. The knife arrived and I was pleasantly surprised as it was very well sharpened out of the box, it is hair popping sharp. The damascus looks to be well made and it reportedly has a hardness of 59RC. It is a hollow ground blade and the grind lines are spot, overall it is pleasing to the eye and to the hand with a balance point just barely in front of the guard. The sheath that came with it is a traditional wood box sheath but I had an extra leather sheath here at home and it fit it like it was made for it so the wood will stay home when this knife goes afield with me. This is not a big burly, chop down trees, baton through a redwood, hack through a jungle knife (I have a Woodman's Pal for that) but it will be good for the cutting that always needs done around camp as well as for outdoor cooking. At under $40.00 shipped I thought it would be worth a look and I think I was right.

I am looking forward to a trip to give this one a workout now....mmmmmm...where to go...

Always fun to get toys in the mail. Looks nice. What is the handle and bolster material?

For that price it is a real bargain. It looks like something by Kanetsune. How about sharing the information, so other forumites can benefit. :)

Thanks

I think...think is the operational word here...that it is a Kanetsune Sazanami, it came without the original box or any paperwork. The bolster appears to be iron and the sheath and handle look like white oak. It was an Ebay purchase. Looking at the characters engraved on the blade and the ones I can see in the pictures posted on Kanetsune's site they appear to be the same.

I have one as well.

It is a copy-kanetsune knife and is made in China. I bought mine on eBay as well but the seller was located in Shenyang China. IIRC, the knife was $9.99 and the shipping was $20.

They really are pretty good quality knives although I have not used mine for heavy-duty knifework either. The only thing I plan on doing is to sand down the wood where it is roughly fitted to the guard and smooth down the pins so they don't feel rough against the hand.
