I'm looking at Case and S&M scouts. S&M's seem to have bigger bellied blades. Case's have bails. I saw another brand, can't remember to save my soul. Anyone know different brands of camps & scouts?Whats your opinions on the new ones?S&M's are cheaper and look as well if not better made.

Which Case scout are you looking at? The 640045RSS with delrin handles was made for Case by Camillus and has been discontinued. They are still available though. The new junior acout looks nice, but I have not seen one in person. They are kind of pricey.

The Schatts that I have handled have nice thick blade stock. With the demise of Camillus, I do not believe that there are any other US made scout knives on the market (unless Colonial still offers one).

Check the AG Russell catalog/website...others have posted good things about scout knives made for AG Russell by either Japanese or German comapnies (I do not know which).

Here is a nice Camillus I picked up at the Scout Office a few months ago. I like it.

There are still a few places that have Camillus scout knives...I picked up a cub scout version One blade, One screwdriver/can opener, and a leather punch. The Punch and the Screwdriver are locking. Blue Delrin with the Cub Scout logo and a bail. @ $30 +/- NIB on the Bay it seemed a great deal.

I also have the Case Scout Jr. in 6.5 Bone Stag, a great little knife, a different critter at twice the price point though.

AG's premium scouts are made in the USA, they are very nice knives.

I was looking at the new junior. It is pricey. The Schatt is reasonable at around 80 bucks.I'll check the Russells out, thanks

The A.G.Russell scouts look great, and are reasonably priced. I've been meaning to pick one up... Anybody have one who can blab about it?

I have a friend who, awhile back, asked me to pick out a scout knife for his son.The boy was serious about scouting and loved pocket knives--and his dad thought that Uncle Shaldag was a good source for information.

I suggested the AG Russell premium scout knife in stag--which was then still available. When the kid got it for his birthday, he couldn't wait to show me, so I got a chance to handle it. Very very nice fit and finish. Something that the boy will be able to hand down for generations.

Do the Schatts have half stops?

I've got an AG Russell Scout in jigged bone and am very happy with it. Excellent fit and finish, nice snap and a great main blade.

Many Scout shops, both at district HQ, and independent retailers still have Camillus Scout knives in the clampacks. Most Scouters, while educated blade users, are not knife-knuts so there was not a giant rush to grab and horde. Not every place will have one, but they are around.
