that's nasty, hope you get better. my friend's big toenail actually just recently fell off too, and he's been showing it off to everyone (he's out of college and got a job and everything, but he's a bit on the goofy side)

My dad smashed his thumb when I was a kid, and eventually the nail came off; he'd threaten my sisters with it if they didn't behave, really funny stuff. (They thought it was really gross . . . ) Yes, it'll grow back, and look all shiny & new & healthy, but make sure you don't get an infection. then it'll look all gnarly for the rest of your life.

thx - cpr

I had a little accident once where a large Bangor roofing slate guillotined my big toe. The nail looked like a ski jump, still attached under the cuticle. I ripped it off with pliers and it hurt, a good bit!

Lately I had another little accident, only with my thumb and a sledgehammer.

Here's a pic of thumb following surgery to put it mostly back together. It's pretty gory so don't look if you are liable to be ill.

That last pic is just awful. Makes my knees week. I want to puke my beer that is so gross.

dropped a 55 gal drum on my big toe - took about 6 months for it to fall off and regrow - no adverse affects. Musashi - had a similar experience with a 25 oz framing hammer - would not recommend that to anyone.

I dont worry about it any more, I had mine removed from both toes:) now I can smash them all I want. Damn ingrown nails:( they hurt. For about 2 years I would just let it grow out and rip them off with my leatherman. That was less painful than walking around with them ingrown.

Last week I banged my R big toenail, and it bent back a lot and apparently compressed down, so it will eventually fall off. The base of the nail is slightly bruised, and the skin underneath the nail is like a big blood blister, but at least now it doesn't hurt when I press the nail. A few days ago it even hurt to put on socks.
Ah, well...
Jim
