I just finished up a back-to-back Tom Brown Advance Survival & Tracking/Awareness Course in New Jersey.
Here are a few photos of my experience.

Very good photos...... BTW.... your picture in camo scared the hell out of me;) :D

Thanks for sharing...... glad you had fun:thumbup:

Cool pics, Myakka. Looks to be a very fun and informative class.
I have a question about the bowl you made; I know that a cherry ember from a fire is blown around gently to form the inside, but it looks somewhat "finished" on the outside. Is it finished somehow, or is it just the wood you used?

Looks like a great learning experience. Thanks for sharing.

Bowieman,
Yes I burned in the hole with embers, to get a shiny finish on the bowl i used a small quart pebble, and rubbed it hard all around my completed bowl to compress the wood and make in shiny. When it was fully finished i rubbed alittle olive oil on it after held it over the fire to warm up the wood, and let the oil soak into the wood.

OOOOHHHHHH....... I see how it is, you take a class right in my backyard and you don't feel the need to call, write, stop by.......

Looks like it was a good time.

Great pictures, Myakka. Couple of questions - trout in that stream?
The picture of the pottery - was that just the preheat?

Doc

Doc,
I didnt catch any trout this time, and yes the photo is just preheating the pots. After heating the pots we moved them into the middle, covered them with all the embers, and build a bigger and hotter fire. If you see the green beer bottle in the middle of the pots? The next morning it was completly melted. The fire needs to be around 1,300 degrees to really "fire-harden" the pots.

Very cool, and great pics. I'd like to eventually take a Tracker course.

would you recommend these courses? Are they worth the price? I have read a lot of peoples opinions some saying hes not worth it and some swearing by him. I would love to take one of his classes but 800 bucks is out of my range.

What exactly do you stalk?

very cool.... great pics....:D

i've always wanted to take one of TB's courses, they are just a bit too expensive.....:( they have them a few times a year in boulder creek, that's just a few miles away....

where are the knife pics...:)

wow that camo looks very effective indeed!

i'm thinking about doing a similar course in the summer, but for only about 2 à 300 euro

WVHILLS,
The photos are two different, but back-to back classes (14 days total)
The first course is Tom's Advanced Survival, and the other is the Advanced Tracking & Awareness Course

Robert S,
Who do we stalk you ask? Well other tracker students of course. :D

The courses were very fun and I got alot out of both. Tom's classes not not "hard core" like a BOSS field course, but I am very glad I have taken them. I will be taking another one of his classes again next year, his "Scout class".
